Do not trust anything the DA's office tells you. DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING THEY TELL YOU UNLESS YOU HAVE IT IN WRITING SIGNED, DATED AND ALL THAT. Here is my story about how the DA's office helped a criminal scam us out of thousands of dollars. I will try to make this short. A partner and I were screwed out of $10,400 for a property we rented. The guy we rented from didn't own the building he was just a tenant and an off the books so to speak of "property manager" named Doug Hirt. Doug Hirt has an extensive history screwing tenants, contractors and property owners out of alot of money. But the legal system never does anything to assure Doug doesn't scam any one else again. I have met countless people that have took Doug to court, seek legal help to get nothing in return mind you were talking thousands of dollars he has stolen from people but he never gets into trouble nor has to give much of anything back. People have won in court but the court doesn't do anything to ensure payment. After about 8 months our case was switched to assistant district attorney Destiny Bowman (not sure of spelling). At first she seemed great, she actually called us back and kept us informed about what was going on in the case. I get a phone call from her stating that "Doug Hirt does not want to get charged with a felony so they have a deal they want to see if you guys will agree to". The deal was $3000 down and $250 a week and It will be paid for before Christmas 2016 but we would only get $8800 because Doug gave the owner of the building $1600 and he would only get probation and be charged a misdemeanor. We said we will agree as long as if he doesn't pay he goes to jail which Destiny Bowman agreed. We said if he is only gonna pay us in small increments to just send him to prison. A few months later (dec 2016) after hearing nothing I called because we received no money or any info now she changed her story up. She said we were getting $3200 down and $200 a week but only $7200 total now because Doug and the owner said we were in the building for longer then we were even though we could prove that was false and we were only in the building 2 months and most of that was waiting for Doug to pay the owner. I told Destiny that we agreed to something months ago and now your changing the deal. Her response was " Well that is pretty much what we talked about". I was very upset that she didn't hold up her end of the deal. So a few more months go by and still nothing so we call again. She tells us there court gave him until this next court date to pay you guys so we should get a check soon. We received a total of $1600 in two checks around February 2017. Here we are in May now. I get a letter stating Doug Hirt has to pay a total of $5600 in restitution and has three years to pay it. We did not agree to this in any way shape or form. This is why scam artist exist. The legal system lets these guys get away with everything. Its just sickening. Bottom line do not agree to anything unless you have it in writing or a lawyer present under any circumstance.
