Story

MillStone Bread is a small, family owned bakery located behind Victoria Hall in beautiful Cobourg, Ontario. We bake bread in our wood fired brick oven that was built by Owner and Head Baker, Doug Lawrence.

We specialize in European style, artisan bread and have a rotating schedule of breads, all baked fresh daily. A variety of delicious desserts including cookies, bars, pies, cakes are also available. Doug also makes a line of marmalades and jams.

This is an amazing bakery and a must visit for anybody in downtown Cobourg. The bread is fantastic with a huge variety of different loaves from French rustic, sourdough to whole-wheat. But don't just come for the bread - there are great bakes and treats here as well, with the standouts being lemon squares, croissants, cinnamon buns and a large selection of cookies. The staff are also extremely helpful and friendly, so it's always a pleasure making a visit.

What an awesome bakery with great customer service. I moved to Cobourg over 2 years ago and shop at this bakery on a weekly basis. They bake a great variety of European-style bread ..... a bit firmer, denser and crustier. The savoury smell of the bread often makes me tear off a chunk before I even get home. Delicious!! And don't forget a savoury treat. On this visit I bought 2 rhubarb custard slices for my afternoon coffee break. Delicious!! They also carry a small range of jams, chutneys, pasta, tomato sauces and other flavourful cooking and baking items. If you are here close to the lunch hour, you can grab a sandwich and a coffee to go.
I've tried pretty much every bread and baked good they make. Everything is always perfectly cooked and delicious. Some of faves are the cinnamon buns, semolina bread, quiche, croissants, cookies, flavored tea biscuits and date squares. If you know what you want, I've been told you can order it a day or so ahead of time !
They have fantastic hours, and wonderful fresh bread, as well as a nice selection of assorted products in store.
Stopped in here the other day and grabbed a variety of things, cinnamon rolls, cheddar chive scones, peanut butter cookies, sausage rolls, a ham and cheddar quiche, and they were all so delicious! They have a nice variety of pantry items too. Will definitely be back any time we're in the area!
I Highly recommend this local bakery. I stopped in and picked up a wonderful deli sandwich and some tarts last week. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and service was prompt. I enjoyed the food so much I went back the next day to buy a chicken pot pie and carrot cake. Everything was fresh, tasty and well prepared. I will make sure to try it again when I’m in the area.
Love this place and stop as often as I can but was quite disappointed with my last visit. Called the Friday before Easter to order hot cross buns for Saturday but was told I can't pre-order as they are sold on a first come first serve basis. Got up early and drove 25 minutes to get to the bakery by 7:15 on Saturday morning. Clerk told my husband the hot cross buns were just rising and to come back in an hour. Went for a drive to kill some time as there wasn't time to go home and back and when we returned to the bakery the buns were coming out of the oven. My husband was asked if he had placed an order and he told them that I had called the day before and was told I couldn't place an order. They said that they were in the middle of getting the placed orders fulfilled first and that would take a few hours and then they'll put out the remaining buns. We're on our way home without any hot cross buns. Kinda wish we'd been told that when I originally called and said I'd be there first thing in the morning, or on our first visit on Saturday morning. Would also like to know what it takes to be special enough to pre-order. More than just a little disappointed and maybe even a little angry.

An all around great bakery! Excellent breads and treats. The highlight for me is their customer service and cheesecake! I ordered the pear crumble cheesecake for a birthday cake, which couldn't be written on... so instead they put some writing and art on the box. Ive been to specialty bakeries that only sell cheesecake, and Millstone surpassed them on flavor and texture! It's the perfect cheesecake with the right thickness of buttery crust, with the perfectly sweetened and rich cheesecake. Everyone loved it, so now I'm on buying cheesecake for everyones birthday.
