Michigan City Campground

About

Michigan City Campground is located in NW Indiana. We are quiet &family friendly- just minutes from beautiful Lake Michigan, Shopping and Casinos.

Story

Michigan City Campground, conveniently located 1.5 miles south of I-94 and 2.5 miles north of I-80/90, is a privately owned family campground. It is nestled on 40 acres, just 5 miles from Lake Michigan and 10 miles from Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
The campground is 50 miles east of Chicago and close to the South Shore Commuter train station. So if Chicago is your destination come “home” to peace and quiet after a long day of sightseeing.
The campground features 2 fishing ponds (catch and release), children’s playground, basketball court, sand volleyball, and a swimming pool. There are 130 full hook-up sites and 14 water and electric sites. If you prefer “roughing it” we also have primitive camping along with a group tenting area or you can rough it in style in one of our 7 cabins. We can accommodate the largest motor home or trailer on the road.
The store/office area is well stocked with groceries, RV supplies, gifts and snacks! The laundry is located right next to the store, is open 24 hrs/day and has a change machine for the campers convenience. The laundry room features softened water, 4 washers and 6 dryers.
The campground is open year round. We also have many monthly sites available with winter water, as well as seasonal and overnight spots. A great place for summer fun and family gatherings.

My cabin was very nice inside and everything I expected it to be. However, on my porch there were carpenter bees constantly flying about and occasionally dive bombing me. I spoke with owners more than once about them. It was explained that they had tried to get rid of them but without success. And anyway "they won't sting me." I could think of multiple customer service options they could have offered me, but they didn't. I wasn't even told when I made my reservation that bees were known to be around the cabins. Finally, I felt they should have a dedicated parking area for checking into the park. When I drove up I had to park on their grass to be off the roadway because all 10 spots were taken and I was the only one in the office....

Nice location, very quiet, easy to find off the highway and not far from Wal Mart. Gated campground with two well-maintained ponds. Playground was nice. Very clean and well-maintained, although the bath houses overall were very dated (no proper shower head and exposed piping). The office is pretty much a big house painted in a bizarre color scheme. Some clearly permanent residents there, although they take care of their space very well. Pull through spots have tons of space, both on the side and front to back.

Probably the best campground I have ever been to. Very family orientated. Seems like a decent area, stores are all close by. Rates are very fair. I am a pool operator and the pool was spot on perfect. Can't say enough, wish I was there now.

This is a good campground for an overnight stay. The management was helpful and when I didn't like my site, they found one more to my liking. The sites were very close together and only a few were shady. The dog park was a nice size, but had no shade, water, or poop bags. We had to be very careful where we stepped, as guest had not cleaned up and neither had the staff. It worked for tonight, but I wouldn't stay again
