such a weird small mexican restaurant in Petite-Patrie.
as you go through the door, first thing you'll hear is the security alarm going off like you're trespassing and the cops are on their way to arrest you. better close that door ASAP son! after taking care of the door and making your way to the counter, there's going to be a faint voice coming from the back. that's the lady of the place calling for you.. tiny lady asking what you're having (takeout or sitting) and off she goes in the back (kitchen) leaving you standing there like a deer in headlights.. she does come back to take your money but disappear almost as soon.
so, i was alone for 10-15 minutes wandering around. well, technically, i wasn't totally alone. a security camera was checking me up. anyway, i looked up the decor and its classic mexican look with maps, mirrors, food pictures and some christian/catholic quotes and stuff. there's an empty salad bar that i have no idea what's the purpose for. every time i pass by, place is always dead. a bunch of pastries make up the front counter. couldn't tell what they were except maybe sweets? and they have a turntable which i found a ginette reno album but you're not allowed to touch though.
as for the food, got myself a spicy beef taco order (comes in 2). its not bad, spicy it wasn't (you could feel the tingling but that's pretty much it). i've had better and there's better in the neighborhood. didn't spot any alcoholic beverage nor any fish tacos.
all in all, it was kind of an out of body experience. with the security alarm and security camera and the lady leaving you there all by yourself for some time. you could say place is charming.
ps. her french is ok, better in spanish (obviously) so if you speak spanish, go to town!

I went there to buy some mexican cookies. They had many of the cookies I wanted displayed but when I asked the owner for some, he told me they were not good for eating anymore because of the warm day, so there was not point to keep them as if they were for sale. I decided to buy the only cookies he told us were still good for eating since my kids were craving for a cookie after seeing the spolied ones. I ask him if I could seat with my kids in one of the tables to eat the cookies (the place had no customers but us) and the owner say no because je was about to close. He was rude the hole time. I'm not coming back.

They don't have much except what's good of mexico: coffee, hot chocolate from oaxaca, tortas, breads. Yum.
