I had my rent increased 300% and have been asking for months to see the new criteria that lead to this. Louise, the only worker there according to her, ignores my requests, is dismissive and will not pass me onto another worker or give me info to contact anyone else. My rent went up in July and I'm still waiting going into December. If you have any other options, use those and save yourselfthe mental stress. Shameful how you are treated by an organization that claims to support community.
When first applying in 2021, the process was very easy-going and I had few if any troubles. Since having to go through the renewal process, I've sent more than 25 e-mails back and forth trying to get an answer to a yes or no question. The assistance program itself is good, however the administration through the bureaucracy has been a less than pleasant process. CNSTHB needs a change to allow in-cash benefits recipients to transition to the in-kind benefits moving from the reception of rent-subsidies to providing free or low-cost public housing. As it is, you can be on the wait list for public housing or receiving public housing and be moved to the wait list for in-cash rent subsidies, however those who are receiving in-cash rent subsidies haven't been given a clear manner to change to public housing in the event where it becomes more appropriate for the provision of secure housing.
1. The noise complaints reported to housing throughout the hours of the days should be MRHA staff's responsibility to deal with when the incidents occur on a continual daily basis from 8:00 am - 4:30+ pm. The above should in no way be the tenant's responsiblity to handle. The only noise complaints that a tenant should have to report to security/police are the noise incidents that occur at or after 11:00pm. Even then security should be on the job and handling the noise situationsi instead of sitting at the desk 2.MRHA should in no way no way be able to casually disregard any medical emails/letter sent by any tenat's Dr./Drs.
Metro Regional Housing is good a crises. We have had floods and fires at Joseph Howe Manor and they came through every time. They are also good at day to day operations, the place is clean but only fairly well managed. There is a proven noise problem that affects the ninth floor. The previous general manager, Patricia Pat Lawrence tried to get a sound engineer before she retired in August 2013. Her replacement, Janet Burt-Gerrans admits the noise but refuses to get an engineer. She does not like my Joe Howe News, a monthly critique of Metro's management which is a document of record at the Public Archives of NS. In fact, we're going to small claims court to let them decide if a tenant can criticize his landlord as a journalist. Peter McGuigan MA
Im so glad for Virgina Hinch, as she really helped me out from living in a rooming house, no names it was horrible the worst living experince ive had amongst others, so im happy to have my new own place affordable rent Thanks a bunch Virgina Hinch.
The only good thing about Metro Housing is the affordable rent. They rarely do repairs, if any, treat tenants like second class citizens and are very difficult to deal with on almost every issue.
Their communication skills are absolutely despicable and the people they are supposed to help, they treat like 2nd class citizens. I have never had a good experience communicating with them.
You guys should be ashamed! Plotting and planning with the police and city Officials to put up cameras in the square! Blatant racism! Right in your face racism! So how does housing cover it up? By releasing a statement that the cameras are only going into Craig Ave and that's it only for illegal dumping!!!! You lie!!!! We know your lying!!! Illegal dumping??? Are you serious?!!! We are smarter than that! What an insult to our intelligence! People aren't going to stand for this kind of treatment. You have proven yet again how racist the City of Halifax really is. I'm straight up disgusted!
My experience with the staff at MRHA was very pleasant and helpful.
All the staff are rude and have no sense how to talk with someone.
