-UPDATED REVIEW- I had a great time back, the food here never disappoints. I had the pleasure in trying the Warm Board and the Sea Board, Espresso Martini and an Old Fashion, they were all amazing. The Sea board had smoked salmon, mussels, shrimp and oysters, most of these items can be ordered separately on their menu. The mussels and shrimp were so GOOD I couldn’t stop dipping my bread in the butter the seafood was cooked in. It was that flavourful The Warm board consists of fried chicken, their in house stuffed sausages with cheese, brisket, peppers and pickles. My boyfriend really enjoyed this one the sausages were absolute amazing. The staff was super nice and attentive, thank you Brian for inviting us back and Ashley for the wonderful service. Definitely a cool spot to come with friends. ________________ Came on a Sunday for Happy Hour, the food was great we really enjoyed the shareable but the service was extremely slow. I ordered their special happy hour drink which was a dirty Shirley. They kept forgetting my drink and my boyfriends ginger ale and when it finally came we were already finished with our food. I was very unhappy that my drink was more ice cubes than liquid and it seemed rushed because my drink looked completely different from my other friends when they ordered the same drinks for their second round. My drink was not the same colour and was missing the cherry/orange garnishes and it definitely did not taste the same. Overall we did enjoy the food and liked how they were light shareable eats. We ordered: House Charcuterie 2 Dozens of the A Buck A Shuck Oysters That look forever. The first dozen came fast but the second one came when we wanted to pay the bill The Beef Tartar Spicy Octopus
We had a group outing with a party of 10+ on Saturday evening and spent a few hours at Melrose. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, with candlelit tables. It took us a while to get seated, but reasonable considering the size of the party. Although service was a tad slow initially, our server did a good job balancing a large table. The atmosphere seems fit for one-on-one connection but isn’t the best for a group setting. Also, the music is fun but can be turned down a notch to allow for conversation. The drinks were great, albeit pricy, at $17 a drink with 2oz of alcohol. I’m a fan of the “into the rose garden” cocktail. The food was surprisingly tasty for a cocktail bar - notably the spicy octopus, which was crispy and flavourful but not spicy. The spicy hummus was good, but nothing to write home about. Overall, it was a good time. The only major pitfall is the shared bathrooms with Piccolo - they’re tight and crowded with no clear directional signage.
Visited for happy hour and the drinks were amazing. Love the ambiance and friendly staff. Bartender was very accommodating to my friend that doesn't drink alcohol and made her some delicious non-alcoholic drinks. 5 stars for drinks only.... 3 stars for food hence a 4 overall.
The atmosphere of Melrose is really cozy, although the service could have been a bit faster maybe they were short staffed but they were really sweet! The food - oh wow! Amazing quantity and quality - the seacutiere is a must try - mussels and prawns were just beautifully cooked! The drinks were also just amazing - had a lovely time and some amazing flavours in the cocktails!
We regularly go to the tavern next door and had been recommended Melrose for the cocktails. Finally went around to try them. The recommendation is completely legit. All 5 of us who ordered cocktails loved our drinks. Add to this great service and a very tasteful interior and you have a place you'll likely go back to anytime you want a great cocktail. We didn't try the food so that's for next time.
If you’re a fan of oysters and bubbles then this is one of the places you should visit in Toronto. It’s an excellent place for happy hour with friends with buck-a-shuck oysters on Sundays and half priced charcuterie. They have creative cocktail and food menu.
Loved this place super cute, great ambience, bar tenders were friendly and creative. I loved that they had alcohol free spirits to make cocktails. The bartender / mixologist kemi was amazing. She catered the drink exactly to my preference and nailed it! I actually loved that she took a tiny sample of the alcohol free gin to understand the flavour profile. I will definitely be back and can’t wait to have the charcuterie board
This place is a popular spot for drinks so be sure to book a reservation beforehand or get their early and put your name down on the wait list! Cocktails here are delicious and are comparatively priced to other spots downtown. Food is also tasty too, although I would have appreciated if they put some chilli peppers next to any dishes that are spicy. Their bathroom is linked with Piccolo below them so it can get a bit crowded. Also there aren’t signs or at least from what I could see that indicate which bathroom was which. But once you walk into one and discover a urinal, you’ll know which one you’re in.
We loved the hot charcuterie board that we ordered, the brisket being my favorite part. We ate the majority of our warmed olives before any of the rest of our food arrived, especially considering it was cold and we were sitting out on the side walk. As with anywhere we go, we had to order the burrata, which was amazing. My only complaint was with the beef tartare, which unfortunately was exactly what made us choose to go here in the first place... sadly it was over flavored with the capers, barely able to taste the actual meat and neither of us could eat much of it. We finished the meal with the fried cookie dough, which was fun to order once but definitely not something we will be getting again. Overall, we will definitely be back, especially with friends.
Recently popped by before last call, and had some amazing cocktails! House cocktails are creative, but bartenders will whip up pretty much anything you like. Great service from all that evening! Can’t wait to try the winter cocktail menu!
