Wow. What a great place to shop at today. Picked up an online purchase flippers, and got a pair of shoes I wasn’t even thinking of buying today but had a great experience at the shoe section w the guys there. The shoe I liked was actually on sale too! Also, picked up a dry bag for my trip based on the young guy’s suggestion, when I asked him about these. Reminded me of the MEC I bought my aqua shoes & backpacking bags from years ago. Keep up the great work. Nice store. They have everything here.
Be aware when getting a bike or ski service it’s impossible to talk to anyone over the phone. It’s happened for me before with a bike service and now with ski should have known. They called. I tried calling back. No one answered. Tried many times. Tried next day. Many times. Finally get through and ask to speak to ski service shop. Put on hold. It eventually sends me back to ring the main line. So I drove down. While phone ringing I walked in the store. It was a quiet night and the Store was dead. I am very serious. Staff chatting behind counter. No one answering phone. Perhaps I should have said something at the time. But they’re still servicing my skis and the last thing I need is trouble. I just won’t go back. EVER. I have a great local bike shop now that I use and I’ll have to find a local ski shop moving forward.
-1 star cz of tiny parking considering loads of people come and go. Also the dog park is also using their parking space. That's probably the bigger problem. They have way markers and sanitation area but no one follows them apparently. I had to dodge loads of people who don't have masks and not maintaining social distance. And they are starting to shout too like spit coming out. So I might not come here again just bec of the decorum of the people who go into this establishment. Staff were very helpful but they are very busy all the time will massive people coming in and out. They only have a few stuff cz their place is smaller than MEC Vancouver which has 2 stories. Not a lot of options but you will find what you need and not want. Better to always look online and call before going there. It's waaaay too crowded. Stocks from Van can always be delivered to NVan store.
I went to Military Equipment Company ystrdy owned by a Richard ‘Dick’ Cheney supporter and reluctantly bought two sleeping bags. Used a gift certificate and was about to pay but the masked dude behind the petrol-based plastic screen said I owed 2x what I expected. Walked to the sleeping bag section to show him the deal. From paper slips inside the sales tag he chose the lowest savings. I chose the highest savings one. He then asked me what date it was. I didn’t answer I’m not the one working. He realized I was right. Walking back to the cash he tells I’m lucky. “I didn’t need luck when it was a co-op,” I replied. Back at the cash register he tells me he already entered the previous $237, and now needs me to pay that amount and will refund the balance. I have to do the math on paper to MAKE SURE I’m not getting ripped off by a guy who doesn’t even know what day it is. Anyone who thinks Mountain Equipment Company has anything to do with its 1971, West Fourth Volkswagen Westphalia roots is kidding themselves. They stole our $5 memberships and gave us back a corporation.
Had the most uncomfortable experience with a front desk personnel at this location. I was there to pick up a package I ordered to store that was labeled "arrived" on my MEC account. When I got there the front desk person asked to see my confirmation email, and I promptly showed it to her. She then told me it was not the "right confirmation email" and I need to wait for another email, to which I responded on my account it says these items has arrived. She simply said my items were not in store and I need to come back with the "right confirmation email". I called the MEC store directly today and another, much nicer, personnel confirmed my items arrived on October 30! So my items were already in the store when I first came by to pick them up. I do not understand why this person would not give me my items and refused to help me, not impressed. I really wish I got her name because it felt very rude and dismissive the way she has acted.
The shoes I wanted were sold out in my size. While walking out I saw a mannequin wearing the shoes I wanted. Checked the tag and they were my size. Staff pulled the shoes off the mannequin and sold them to me. Seldom are stores willing to sell items on display, Thank you Mec. Great job!
If I could give zero star I would. Visit this location for the very first time. Was looking for life jacket but didn't have that many choices so I decided to walk around the store, no one offer any help or any greeting. I see they offered help to some other customers. Hmmmm...I wonder it's the color of my skin. Not the store I want to visit and spend my money. Poor/ no service and not friendly.
Was back in a MEC after probably 15 years! As exciting as it was years ago. I didn’t buy anything as they didn’t have the shoes I wanted in my size, but they have a good collection of lots of things you didn’t know you needed for your camping/sporting by trips. Their online store is way more complete, at least as far as shoes and boots are concerned but I would make a point of visiting the store every few months just to discover new things!
Katie is the best! Helped me find the perfect product! this girl has the customer experience skills! she deserves a raise! Will be back just to see her again!
I dealt with manager Luke at this store. Terrible service. My husband is a first responder and gets a discount. He was not there at time of purchase and I was told he needs to be there to show ID which is totally understandable. Then I asked the manager if my husband can bring back the receipt and get the discount on it. He said no, and he would NOT hold the merchandise for me until he can come in. I said ok I guess I have to come back with him and return the stuff and rebuy them so that I don't loose the sizes. Kids sizes sell out fast and the stuff I picked there was only one left. He said no you can't do that and I will put a message on your account so that you can't do that. A THREAT Honestly his attitude was terrible. It felt like he did not want to help me at all. How do you guys explain your first responder discount policy when you don't want to help first responders that work grave yard shifts and can't and can't always come in the next day. The reason I decided to write a review is because Luke the managers attitude. He should not be a manager when he can't come up with any solutions other than threatening that he will flag our account.
