Maxson's Riverboat and Riverside Restaurant

Beautiful setting overlooking the Rock River. Welcoming service and great food. I had the fall off the bone tender tasty ribs and they were delicious! My dinner came with soup and salad bar that included a nice selection of lettuce, a few toppings, slaw, potato salad, and pickled beets, my favorite! Go light on the salad though because even at half a slab it was too much to eat. The fries were great, crispy outside and tender inside. The grilled veggies were tasty. I will return!

We have spent most of the day there, just hanging around and chilling out. We cruised the river for lunch, had few drinks, took some pics and had dinner later inside. Nice place, nice view, very large nice deck, service was good as well. The place is really nothing all that special but at the same time it is also a cool place to chill out. We were there on Saturday and it was not very busy. Would we go back? Yes we would.

Beyond disappointing. Traveling with a large group of elderly folks from two local nursing homes, the group was treated rudely from the minute they arrived until the minute they left. After arriving early the group was left to stand in the sun to wait to board. Reloading onto their bus was not an option as they required it to be parked in a remote lot immediately. When finally underway, lunch was distributed, rudely...dry, stale and unappealing. "Servers" were rude, rushed and abrupt, pushing chairs roughly here and there to get between tables, including one containing a portable oxygen machine, ripping the mask off a diner's face. (Moving the chair was understandable, but absolutely no consideration of clientele.) Diners were obviously getting chilly, and several asked if anything could be done, and the fans blew on... After lunch cruise was pleasant, until a guest resting with feet elevated on a chair was roughly instructed to get their shoes off the chairs. Again, the delivery, not the message...know your clientele! No solutions offered, just very abrasive communications at every turn. These new owners need some people skills if they expect folks to pay the steep prices charged, unless they're striving to compete with Medieval Manor, where people pay to be mistreated!!

Made a reservation for Sunday at noon. Left my name and number with the person that took the reservation. Showed up for our boat ride and lunch with my in-laws, here from 900 miles away, and were informed that the boat would not be operating due to too few reservations... That's fine, but why weren't we called so we could make other plans? Not the way to run a business, I will not return. Honestly, it may be better that we didn't have the experience after reading other reviews. Just shut this place down already, it's a worthless business. Make room for someone that isn't so lazy.

Good place from lunch or dinner. It's been here a long time. My parents used to go there.
