Since 1964, the Markham Skating Club has been committed to the development of skaters of all ages in our community.
Registration for fall/winter programs takes place in MID-AUGUST. Registration for our spring programs takes place in MID-FEBRUARY.
Classes, especially for the younger skaters, fill up very quickly. Please check Facebook and our website regularly for schedules and registration dates during those time-frames.
We have learn-to-skate programs for children, teens, and adults; also programs for more advanced skaters up to Skate Canada Gold Level testing. We also offer a power skating program for those wishing to refine their skating skills for hockey and other skating sports.
From building a solid foundation in skating skills to helping individuals reach their goals and dreams, our ultimate mission is to inspire a life long love for the sport of skating.
PRECANSKATE:
Our PreCanskate program is an introductory session taught by professional coaches. It is taught in a flexible manner, and is designed to be an enjoyable time for preschool children (ages 3-5) while they learn the fundamentals of skating.
CANSKATE:
Our Canskate program has one of the lowest skater to coach ratios to deliver a safe and stimulating environment for beginner skaters ages 5 and up. Badges are awarded as skaters move through and master the fundamentals to prepare for success in more advanced Skate Canada programs.
STARSKATE:
STARSkate programs (Intermediate, Senior, Advanced, Gold levels) afford skaters the opportunity to develop their figure skating in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Skaters may also take Skate Canada tests through a nationally standardized testing system.
PERFORMANCE ENRICHMENT:
This program is designed to prepare our skaters for the rigors of competitions. All skaters must be recommended by their private coach to register for this program and skate a minimum of two days per week in addition to this program.
ADULTSKATE:
Our adult program offers adults and teens a fun, non-judgmental environment in which to learn to skate, improve basic skating skills or maintain more advanced skills. These sessions cater to adults of all skill levels.
POWERSKATING:
The dynamic and motivating Power Skating program is designed to build strong skills for new and experienced hockey and ringette players. Power skating improves not only straight-line acceleration, but also backward skating, tight glide turns, forward and backward crossovers and more.
