Decent Hainanese chicken but was it worth $40+ for a whole chicken? Not really. Got two bowls of rice, one yellow oil and one white. They put them into one box and the portions were really small. The texture and taste of the rice were a bit off for me too. The curry assorted vegetables were okay. Nothing special and definitely not worth $17 for a small portion. I really wanted to give this place a chance but with their steep price compared to other competitors I don’t think I will make a revisit soon.
First time here and I must say the Hainanese Chicken is pretty good! Would be better if there is scallion dipping source. One thing I did notice was the portion of the chicken definitely became smaller, comparing with the photos in the past years :Food: 5/5
MamaLee was a lot better back then, than it is now. I was very disappointed in the quality of food. We got the fish ball laksa, roti cani and hainese chicken. The laksa was very bland flavourless only a hint of coconut taste and wayyy to much bean sprout not enough noodles. The roti was the biggest disappointment. They pretty much shredded the roti into small broken piece. I felt like I was being fed by my grandma. Hainese chicken is still good. No complaints there. Still very flavourful. The photo was just the two of us having a small bowl each.
I have to say it is the best Hainanese Chicken I’ve ever had.Food: 5/5
Great place for some de-boned Hainanese chicken. Worth the convenience of having no bones. They have been consistent ever since I first went to this location back in 2013.Food: 5/5
We’re always up to try a good Malaysian restaurant and I’ve heard some good things about Mamalee located on West Broadway in Kits. This is a pretty basic Malaysian restaurant not a very huge menu and the interior is quite utilitarian. Still… we’re here for the food. We wound up ordering the Hainanese Chicken regular size with a side of soup as well as Roti Canai and a Milo Dinosaur. A cold Milo Dinosuar really is refreshing on a hot day. The simple soup was so aromatic when it arrived at the table. First up is the Hainanese Chicken, served cold, with a side of rice. The poached chicken was quite good and we managed to finish this rather easily. While it comes with a bit of dipping sauce, I would have liked if it had more ginger and scallion dipping sauce you have to pay extra for more. The Roti Canai was a bit disappointing… not sure what was really going on here. It seemed quite shredded up and the outside seemed to be overcooked and not the least bit fluffy on the inside. We also wound up ordering the Chee Cheong Fun with Fish Balls. This actually turned out to be a pretty good dish and I enjoyed the tender rice rolls but I thought the sauce was a bit too runny as it was difficult to coat the rice rolls with it. Overall impressions… a very minimalistic Malaysian eatery with some hits and misses. In either case, don’t order the roti canai unless you like it overly dry and shredded.
The special sauce that comes with the rice makes it more worth it. Would have been nice if they participated in the trick or treat event for kids and dogs though.Food: 4/5
My family and I visited the new location in Chinatown recently. The roti bread and the Hainan chicken were obviously delicious. Loved the interior design and the customer service was exceptional. Will 100% be returning.Food: 5/5
Omg this was so good !!!! I’ve had hainanese chicken at several different places in Vancouver AND Asian before and this place is the best by far! Nothing but praise! I also ordered this fried pastry thing see photo and that was so yummy too will come back for sure ! Highly highly recommend if you like chicken!
This place used to be so good up to a few years ago. Havent been here for 3 yrs due to the pandemic, and the taste has gone downhill, including the portion, and the price has gone up of course. The laksa and the curry are all water down, the chicken is ok but the portion is small... The service is slow and they are forgetful, had to get up and walk to the counter to remind them of what I asked for twice. There are now better choices elsewhere in Vancouver.
