This place came in highly recommended. Not only was the food delicious, but the atmosphere and the service were top tier. I don’t know much about Greek wines, and our server recommended a lovely light red to go with our food.nnWe got the Lavráki Tartare Mediterranean seabass and the Lahano dish roasted cabbage as an entree. Followed by Oktapódi grilled octopusand Imam Bayildi grilled eggplant. We finished with the Baklava cheesecake, it was definitely on the heavier side, but not too sweet.nnOverall, the experience was a 10/10 and if you’re looking to reserve, this is your sign!
My fiancée and I came to Mamakas for lunch and sat at the bar, and we had a really good experience overall.nnThe bartender was friendly, professional, and attentive, and made us feel welcome right away.nnWe ordered the dips, Greek salad, calamari, lamb chops and souvlaki, and shared a bottle of sparkling wine. Everything tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and nicely prepared. The dips and salad were especially good to share, the calamari was light and not greasy, and the sparkling wine paired well with everything. The souvlaki and lamb chops were flavourful and cooked well.nnI realize that lunch portions are usually smaller, but the lamb chops did feel a bit on the small side for the price. That said, the quality, taste, and overall experience were still excellent.nnWe really enjoyed our lunch at Mamakas and will definitely be back—looking forward to trying it for dinner soon.
I went to Mamakas with a friend on a Saturday without a reservation. We walked to the host desk around 5:30, got put on the waiting list, and got a bar seat within 40 minutes, which is great because it often takes much longer. Definitely recommend making reservations on weekends for any place on Ossington.nnThe place is lively, and the bar seat was actually great because you can watch the staff at work in the open kitchen. Our servers were helpful and friendly. We started with the Saganáki Kroketas deep-fried cheese, really nice and yummy and the Lahanika Skaras grilled vegetables. We also had the Païdákia lamb chops, the server said it is what they do best, and it was tasty with a lovely charcoal grill flavor and the Oktapódi octopus, which was also great. The pita bread was fresh and paired well with everything.nnWe kept noticing people ordering the Lavráki, so we decided to add it to our order. That turned out to be the star of the show. The grilled fish was so good, with a salty BBQ taste and the capers just took it to another level.nnWe each had a glass of house white wine and shared all the food. It was on the pricier side but worth it for the food and the experience. Definitely a spot for an occasional treat.
Mamakas is a treat — definitely on the pricier side, but the quality holds up.nFreshness really stood out across the board. The ceviche was bright and clean, the grilled sea bass had a beautiful charred flavour, and the cod roe dip was rich and addictive. The only real miss was the potato wedges. At $14, they don’t even compete with a bag of McCain wedges — disappointing for an otherwise solid menu.nnService was professional but flat. Think of talking to a colleague on a Zoom call: efficient, but zero warmth or personality.nnThe atmosphere is stylish and inviting, but the tables are packed too closely together, which takes away from the experience.nnOverall, great food with a few hiccups — worth trying, but be prepared to pay for the quality.
Mamakas is a classic. The beef cheek orzo was fantastic. The octopus was good but very expensive for the portion. Could be better value. Eggplant salad was pretty good. Mocktails were excellent. Service was attentive
