Located in Block 37 building on State Street side, this New York bakery in Chicago is pretty awesome. Its signature red velvet cupcake is as good as advertised. But chocolate cheesecake is a must for anyone who likes rich dark chocolate. What they call icebox is essentially cold versions of pies and key lime pie versions of it is strongly recommended. This place isn’t cheap. But it is a great treat very once in a while.
Originally from NYC, but I’m glad we have this Magnolia Bakery location here in Chicago! Very accessible as it’s located in the Block 37 building, and depending on the time you can grab a table here and enjoy your treats with a drink or two. I usually recommend my friends to try the classic banana pudding and some of their cheesecakes , although they have a good selection of cupcakes and pastries as well. My favorite thing to do is to try their seasonal banana puddings kind of like limited editions! Not really well-photographed here, but this time it was the peanut butter flavored which was soooo good !! P.S. Now it seems like it is less of an issue, but please be mindful of your belongings when you are dining here. This is a very busy location too.
Such a fire place!! I have the biggest sweet tooth so passing this is such a dangerous yet rewarding feeling I feel like whenever I go there. It’s never just one cupcake or one banana cream. I move my mouth dream house looking at all the desert so whenever I go there I make sure I grab everything came in my site. I definitely would recommend and it tastes just like the one that I had in New York.
If you’re looking for the BEST bakery-made banana pudding- here it is!! The line is often long or out the door, however, that is a true testament to how DELICIOUS these desserts are! You will not be disappointed in the banana pudding.
Best cupcake I've ever had! Perfect proportions of cake to icing. It was a chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream icing. My husband had a chocolate peanut butter bar and said it was excellent.
So many great sweets and treats to choose from here! The inside of the bakery was very clean and all of the goodies were very well displayed period the prices were mid-range they had very good iced tea and cookies. Easy to enter and easy to exit great little spot.
Yo, the vanilla cake from this place was fantastic. I’m usually not a sweets person, so I didn’t anticipate myself finishing the entire slice. But I did! The cake was the perfect density, and each bite brought a slightly- but never overpowering- sweetness to my palate. Now I gotta go to New York and get an actual slice from there. I’d skip on the drinks though. My Chai latte wasn’t very good.
Okay so I wasnt expecting much as pudding is simple to make however. I was pleasantly suprised how good their banana pudding and cookies and creme was! If your planning on getting a small I would suggest you size up. The small is VERY small more like childs size. Will be back for bigger size. The cake looked delicious as well and will try next time. Very cute decor!
Literally ran into this place visiting from out of town and I liked their cupcake. Got a couple other pastries and I have to say that I was very pleased with everything, and the hot cocoa definitely helped because it is freezing here for my Floridian self

The cafe au lait alone is worth the trip.
