Beautiful place to visit with a lot of history! Lots of little shops, especially with a huge variety of fudge! The people who work on the island are all pretty friendly. You definitely want to explore the butterfly house, it's amazing! The one thing that I'd highly suggest is that if plan on eating, stand outside the door at least 15 minutes prior to the restaurant opening! Trust me, the wait time can be almost 2 hours! Have fun!
You need to take a ferry to get to this park. This is a historic and a scenic park. The coolest thing about this place is that there are no cars inside and the transport is either through Horse Carriage or by renting a bike. There are lot of scenic attractions. The Arch Rock was our favorite. You can bike/hike through the entire perimeter of the island. You can see amazing turquoise color water here. Some great food options available near the ferry terminal.
This place is a must see, you just have to experience it to appreciate it. No cars, all bike, walk or horse drawn carriages!! The history This place offers is amazing. Our carriage driver was wonderful, I forget her name but she was from Portland Oregon and she was great! We went to the Ft. Macinaw, butterfly conservatory, the grounds of the island is beautiful no matter where you go and the views are all amazing!!!
It's a great place to ride your bicycle with all roads & paths both paved and single track trails through the woods. You can also take an 8.2 mile ride around the island on M-185. There are some great views of downtown Mackinac Island and the Straits of Mackinac along the roads on the east and west bluffs. When you are done riding there is always a good choice of places to eat downtown.
The island is really beautiful with no cars allowed on it. The usual route is to reach Mackinaw city or St. Ignace and take a ferry to the island. Flight routes are also available. The island offers bikes and horse cart for roaming around on rent . The perimeter is almost 8 miles long, so a bike rider can cover it in usually 1.5 hrs. There are a few spots such as Arch rock, the fort and a few others to go for. It might take just 3-4 hours to checkout all the spots and complete a perimeter bike ride. There are several beach like small spots to hangout in the lake and smal food shops.
Beautiful place to visit and spend a day or two here. The views are breathtaking and there are a bunch of restaurants and hotels to visit. Don't forget to visit fort Mackinaw and learn the great history of this historically important fort. There are a few ferry companies to go to the island. Pre-book the tickets to avoid long queues. The best thing is that there are no vehicles allowed on the island which makes it an environmentally-friendly place.
We visited this island in the month of August and it was wonderful weather. This beautiful island is only reachable by flight or ferry from Mackinaw city and St.Ignace. You will park your car in sheppers parking area and then take the shuttle to ferry deck. The ferry will take approx 35-40 min to reach the island. The best thing about the island was, it has only bicycles and carriages, no cars, no motor cycle. That sounds so refreshing. Complete island can be cover in 90-120 min by bike. It will be 8 mile round trip but if you are walking in the trail, it will be around 80 miles. Bike rental will start from $10. Famous attractions here are Grand Hotel, Fort, Arch rock. Walking in the streets, checking restaurants and gift shops feel so good. After checking out the history of the island, you feel like you traveled back in time. Some of the hotels, churches and residents were from 1700 century. If you are a history buff then carriage tour is definitely recommended. Wait time in restaurants can be long enough so plan accordingly. The island is also known for its fudge with more than ten fudge shops which I don’t think is needed. The visitor Center is a good place to grab all the information however I didn’t find state park stamp there.There are lots of trails in the state park but do remember to carry water with you as you will not find public drinking water. Lake water is crystal clear and we can see fishes around. Many picnic spots are also available and yes dogs are allowed in the island. The people in the island are very kind.

Mackinac Island is my happy place. Rent bikes and bike around the island, eat fresh fudge, ride a horse, walk around and see all the quaint shops, visit the Fort & the Grand Hotel, take a carriage ride tour. Super refreshing to be in a place without cars.
Mackinac Island is the most beautiful vacation destination in Michigan. It has everything you need and more. It can get very busy but there is something for everyone on the island. If you haven't gone before, put it at the top of your list! Getting around is pretty easy even though there are no cars and everyone rides bicycles. You can bring your own or rent one by the hour. It is a bit pricey so be prepared to spend a few dollars and spoil yourself!
