Very nice hotel. Wonderful staff. Only down side was lack of black out curtains during the summer. Definitely the place the stay in Inuvik. When the restaurant is open, a great choice for a meal.
Second time here. I tend to go easy on northern hotels knowing the limitations this far north.nnThe good: Nice hotel, nice staff. Nice room, great water pressure in the shower.nnThe not so good: No breakfast at all, not even one you can pay for. Restaurant was closed and told it would be closed the next day too. Food is limited unless you go to the grocery store the day before, which i ended up doing.nnAll in all it’s a solid 4/5. Wouldn’t stay anywhere in Inuvik thats for sure.nI’d give a five star had there been maybe some sort of continental breakfast like cereal or toast or anything of the sort given their restaurant was shut down.
Before you arrive in Inuvik for the first time you are not entirely sure what you will get, so it's understandable that you might temper your expectations. But like every aspect of our short trip to Inuvik--the people, the culture, the community, the opportunities for adventure, the spectacular wilderness--the Mackenzie Hotel exceeded our expectations. The restaurant, cleaning and reception staff were all helpful and friendly and the pride in the hotel showed as it was well-maintained and very tidy. The lobby makes for a grand entry into Inuvialuit art and culture with a small but impressive collection of original sculptures, paintings, photographs, and other pieces. Despite it being a challenging moment of transition in the shipping and supplies season, every meal we had was fresh and delicious, and the service was excellent. The hotel is ideally located in the vibrant, beating heart of Inuvik, within easy walking distance of most community sights, services, and attractions.
Best Hotel Option in Inuvik: A Solid 4-Star StaynnI rated this hotel four stars, considering the amenities and services available in Inuvik. For the area, it’s easily the best accommodation you’ll find.nnThe rooms are spacious, clean, and well-maintained, providing a comfortable stay. However, one drawback is that the air conditioning is centrally controlled by the hotel. This can be inconvenient, especially if you prefer cooler temperatures in the summer or extra warmth in the winter.nnThe location is a big plus—it’s conveniently close to a grocery store and several shops, making it easy to grab anything you need.nnThe on-site restaurant has irregular hours, so it’s a good idea to check their schedule ahead of time. Personally, I often opt for the grocery store across the street, where you’ll find quick meal options like KFC and Pizza Hut counters.nnOverall, this hotel is a reliable choice for a comfortable stay in Inuvik.
Rooms are clean, but too warm. Staff is not able to fix anything. “Breakfast” is a joke, some cereals and toast with coffeedon’t eat the cream cheese, I’m pretty sure it is left out overnight. Seems very expensive for little to no services. Also, the elevator is broken and only energy exit stairs can be used. I wouldn’t complain so much about a hotel in the arctic, but they advertise as an amazing place and it is a big let down. Finally, they don’t clean your room each night and the restaurant is take out only. They need to hire more people… someone is pocketing a lot of money without putting anything back into staffing.
