Lov'in the nice hot showers and clean washrooms. oh and they have a playground tooo. So nice to offer this at a territorial park and just outside of Inuvik. A variety of site sizes and a few with hydro. Open sites and more private sites also and potable water!! We stayed an extra day and explore Inuvik more because we were able to enjoy the services at this park!
J’ak campground is between the Inuvik airport and the town itself. about a 5 km drive to Inuvik. The campground is a typical oval, the outside spots are treed, some with raised wood platforms, and are mostly back-in sites, with the central sites being drive-thrus. A few sites have electricity, but most are dry. The bathrooms are clean with two shower stalls each. There is a playground for kids and a nice climb-up tower that provides a great view of the Mackenzie delta together with some information signs see photos. It’s a nice place but the big issue is that you can’t fill up with water or empty sewer tanks at J’ak. For that, you need to go to the Happy Valley Campground, on the west side of Inuvik. There is also no store close by.
Great little campground just outside of Inuvik. The campground has free showers and clean outhouses. The wooden tent pads in each site are really nice. Way better than Happy Valley Campground in downtown Inuvik.
Great campground, but the host's cavalier and unprofessional approach ruined the stay. I had booked a site for 18th June, but because of the Peel River ferry reached a day earlier. The office was closed, but a notice said just pull into a vacant site, which I did. When the host finally came, I confirmed the site 34A with him and then drove into Inuvik to get some food. On my return, another camper had taken the site. The host just shrugged and said that they had "reserved" the site. He suggested I go to Happy Valley Campground.
Found a nice tent spot towards the back thought we had scored another peaceful night. About 7pm local families from Inuvik pulled in and took over the front half of campground and had dinner while kids ran around. That lasted a few hours but at 10pm just after we went to bed 4 cars of local young adults came in and had a party in site next to us. No one enforces any of the rules. Wild night no sleep. Bathrooms were also no clean and no Tp. There are other First Nation Campgrounds south of Jak but again no rules enforced but less people. Now if you happen to need a place by Fort McPherson Natainlaii Territorial Park is 5 Stars
The main advantages are being close to town and quiet. Apart from this, I don't think a single spot is truly level, not the ideal terrain for a campground. Not a lot of privacy either. Good for one night but nothing more.
Showers are incl!!! Awesome. And it's a perfect spot to stop for the night if you plan to keep heading north. Very quite at night as well so that's perfect for us.
Just south of Inuvik. We stayed 1 night in a truck camper RV. Electric hookup only 15amp as well as unserviced sites. No water or dump BUT you can get these for free at Happy Valley in town. Clean bathhouse with free hot showers extra points for spacious showers and removable shower head, fire pits and amazing views. Nice central play area for kids and plenty of grass for dogs to play. Way better than Happy Valley.
Good sites, clean washrooms with hot showers, and only a few minutes from downtown Inuvik. Excellent!
This is a VERY nice out of town campsite but seems to be used more by the locals than tourists. Sites are decent and facilities are what you’d expect. Your roughly 5-10 min. drive from Inuvik from this location.
