If you're looking for asian fusion fine dining, look no further than Lonely Mouth Bar. First, this restaurant should hold a school for training front of house staff for other establishments because the servers were among the best I have experienced anywhere in Calgary. They were classy, polite and unbelievably attentive. Despite how busy they were, we didn't have to wait even a minute for more water, another drink order, or for empty plates to be cleared. The food came out with perfect timing so we were never waiting for the next dish to arrive. Are the servers robots?? The menu is definitely Japanese, despite what many reviews claim, and every dish was delicious and perfectly prepared.
Really enjoying this place! I love they pay attention to details and they gives you nice warm towel to wipe your hands when you first seated! The sashimi are really fresh and other dish are as amazing as it is!! Staff are so nice and welcoming guests too! I’ll deducing back again and again!
I was excited to try the new place that used to be Ox & Angela. I love the variety in the menu choice at Lonely Mouth. Many share plates so you can try different dishes. The chicken wings were crispy and matched well with the Yuzu Ranch dressing. The hand rolls were tasty with crispy nori. I dislike when the nori is left to sit and becomes soggy. The Okonomiyaki pancake with asparagus was very tasty. Lots of flavors. Those were the best dishes out of what we ordered. The pork dumplings were just ok and not worth the $14 for 5 dumplings. The tempura wasn’t crispy. The most disappointing was the udon which is made in-house. It was overly al dente and way too chewy for my taste. I like my udon to be soft and chewy. Not hard and chewy and at $16/serving plain with broth and no add-ons it’s quite pricey. So overall the experience was okay. The service is great. The ambience and decor trendy. I likely won’t be coming back anytime soon.
What a fantastic place. I liked it when I opened the heavy wooden doors. Clean, spacious, with a modern Japanese influenced decor. High attention to detail and the hot towel at the start was a very nice touch. The food was well portioned, fresh, and fun. Reasonably priced food with friendly and attentive staff and a positive vibe throughout the restaurant. We enjoyed our cocktails and hope to try other items on the drink menu next time. The hightlights were the tuna tartare, tempura squid!,handmade udon, and those perfectly no nonsense wings.
Solid good choice for a nice dinner. we went for my partners birthday and I can honestly say everything we had was good... We ordered: Dumplings 2 hand rolls snow crab and beef Turnips Cauliflower Warm udon Tempura beans, shishito pepper and yam Milk buns I had the Satsuma cocktail... I would go back just for this cocktail alone Overall a great experience!
Overall a pretty meh experience. Ambiance is nice, and food is okay. Our experience with our server was poor, but it seemed like most of the other servers were pleasant. Portion sizes are small, flavours are a hit or miss, and under NO CIRCUMSTANCES AT ALL are you allowed to share your hand rolls! At least… that was what our server insisted... well, we found that they were definitely shareable, if you ask for a knife. Nothing too special about the place unless you’re looking for a place to spend some cash.
Lunch at Lonely Mouth was nice, the service & atmosphere of the restaurant was good. I enjoyed the taste of the hand rolls, however I did find it a little awkward/tough to eat, trying to rip the nori. The Brussel Sprouts was hands down my fave! The freshly made in house udon was also delicious - definitely a !
Japanese inspired tapas bar.. enjoyed some of the more subtle flavours normally found in Japanese cuisine that are often missed if just eating at local sushi places. Udon noodles are made in-house and have a nice texture. They have happy hour which is a great time to visit and enjoy the patio! There are unrestricted 2 hour parking spots a couple blocks south of 17th.
Everything was held to a high standard; the cleanliness, ambience, and the food. Servers were friendly, and the food was fresh and enjoyable. Portions were small, but surprisingly filling. When I went, I didn't realize it was happy hour, and they had half-price hand rolls and udon, which was a pleasant surprise. Otherwise everything here is exorbitant.
Came without a reservation as was able to get seated on the In closed patio, service was great hot towel to start and matches in the bathroom is a nice authentic touch. Food was great squid tempura had a really nice texture prepared well the udon was really good added some chilli for spice hand rolls were good and tasty loved the dumplings the spicy Japanese inspired mustard was delicious.
