We found Locals to be a very disappointing experience. Our scallop and pork belly starter was tasty and based on that, we looked forward to our meal. Unfortunately we were very wrong.nnThe bread and compound butter were nice, but our entrees were very disappointing. My wife ordered the Bouillabaisse, which came out bland with some fish overcooked, with the crab in particular more closely resembling rubber than fresh seafood.nnI ordered the venison, which was well seasoned but ultimately uninspired. The sauces and vegetables were competently if plainly executed, but the meal as a whole had a very plain meat and potatoes vibe, rather than fine dining. We also struggled to get attention from our server, who only stopped by twice in our entire meal.nnDisappointed with our mains, we ordered a few desserts to sample, finding them sweet and enjoyable but similarly pedestrian.nnOverall Locals was our most disappointing meal during a week on the island. I’d recommend anyone with a foodie bent steer clear of this place. Your money is far better spent elsewhere.nnAt the price point Locals is charging, there is far better food to be had in the Courtenay area see Atlas Cafe.
Great ambience, good quality food and good size portions. Fire place, Christmas decor, dimmed lights and great service all added to make an incredible dining experience.nThis is a great find of a restaurant, and a great way to support the local economy.
I have been here before for group events but as we were in the area tonight we decided to drop in for dinner. We are from Nanaimo so I wanted to take my wife to somewhere with great fresh food. Our waitress, Georgette was fantastic. She was so kind, informative, personable and patient. The option for local fun were great. The salad was fresh and had great presentation and superb flavour. The seafood chowder was not too think of cream. Just perfect, I especially loved the candied smoked salmon. The chicken pesto was top notch. You could tell that the chicken was free range and a quality dense piece of meat. My wife enjoyed the mocktail and I had a nice glass of red wine. We were full so we will have to try the dessert next time. Thank you for the nice little treat at the end it hit the spot. Easy to find. I knew the area so you have to plan how to enter into the hotel. Great parking. The Bartender was from Newfoundland my home province and she was very kind and show great hospitality. Bravo Locals! Until next time.
I am a bit surprised by some of the reviews. We found the service to be attentive but not overbearing, just the right pacing for a delightful dining experience. We started with the clams, which were well prepared with anfennel sauce.. very enjoyable. My wife had a Cesar salad and scallops, both all one could ask for. I had the tenderloin bacon wrapped with potatoes and veggies. Could not have been better! We finished with the chocolate truffle cake which was delicious. Five star all the way!!
After the third dining experience, I can confidently say this is the best restaurant I have ever been to in the comox Valley/ Courtney area. All three times, staff food and atmosphere were 5/5.nMy favorites are the seafood linguine scallops with crispy pork belly! Cesar salad is amazing, the lavender martini. Wow!!
