Soon as this park's (Gateway Park) renovation is complete, Schenectady Police, the county Sheriff, or city law enforcement officials should patrol this park both during the day and night to keep out homeless people, people who are drunk (alcoholics), graffiti artists, vandals who could (or who even think about) destroying this park, drug dealers (addicts), litterbugs who throw garbage on the ground, especially in the CDTA bus shelter located in the park, and panhandlers who ask people for money, or they will be arrested (prosecuted) for the fullest extent of the law, or get fines for by putting a crackdown on it, and security cameras should be installed throughout this park to protect SCCC Students who live in the dorms (College Suites at Washington Square), which is located adjacent to the park, and senior citizens who will be living in the apartments (which will be in the old YMCA building) across the street from the park. "No Loitering (or no trespassing) in Gateway park during park closing hours at night - or violators will be prosecuted - for the fullest extent of the law" signs should be installed at the entrance to this park, and the signs showing a list of park rules and curfew hours for Gateway Park, esp. for minors (or younger people - e.g., between 10 pm and 6 am) should also be installed, which should help protect that park to keep it safe when the park is closed to the public at night to keep homeless people, vandals, drug dealers (addicts), graffiti artists, or panhandlers away from the new Gateway Park at night to help keep it safe, to prevent vandalism. The police should also patrol Gateway Park both day and night to keep out homeless people, panhandlers, vandals and graffiti artists who could think twice before destroying the park, people who are drunk (alcoholics), and drug dealers (addicts) to help keep Gateway Park safe, very similar to what they did over 20 years ago at Riverside Park in the Stockade neighborhood in Schenectady just after it was renovated, or they could be arrested to keep it safe at night.
On October 9, 2017, in Gateway Park, (formally Liberty Park) in Schenectady, CDTA demolished the old smaller CDTA BusPlus shelter that says "Liberty Park/SCCC" on it, and building a bigger CDTA BusPlus shelter that will say "Gateway Plaza" on it, which will be very similar to those seen on State Street in Schenectady (between Nott Terrace and Balltown Road), along Central Avenue in Colonie, and on Washington Avenue in downtown Albany (along route 5), like this one shown in this photo. CDTA task force (or supervisiors), Schenectady Police, and County Sheriff should patrol this new bus shelter by putting a crackdown on homeless people by removing them, very similar to what they did in the old bus shelter in the park, panhandlers who ask people for money, litterbugs who throw the garbage on the ground inside the bus shelter (e.g., beer cans), like they did in the old bus shelter to keep out vandals or graffiti artists, or be arrested to protect that new BusPlus Gateway Plaza bus shelter.
This renovated park in Schenectady, when it is completed will also be like Schenectady's smaller equivalent of New York City's Central Park, or smaller version of Schenectady's Central Park.

Homeless and junkie hangout spot. Anytime I catch the bus here I'm harassed by a feind looking for money. You would think with the amount of people who come here for the bus that the police would have more of a presence here, but I have never seen them in the area. I hate having to stop there.

Would be nice if the homeless drug addicts weren't there to do drugs in front of children and panhandle for cash.

Drug users, panhandlers, and alcoholics hang out here and enough isn't done to get rid of them.
