I have yet to try all of the menue so read this review with a grain of salt. The cafe looks beautiful, and so does the pastries. However, I found the croissant a bit stale as they were hard to chew and had lost its crispness. The filling inside was great though. Although I waited 10 minutes extra so that I could get a fresh tart, I really didn’t like strawberry tart. The shell was too hard view my video and the filling was custard like. Both of the things I tired looked beautiful but were they worth $30? Absolutely not. I will try other things though and who knows, maybe their other desserts are worth the money ‍.
Among existing croissant places in Toronto, I dare say Le Genie ranks within TOP 5. They have large selection of croissants. Buttery, leafy and flaky. Lovely layers looks perfect and taste good. Pistachio croissant is my absolute favorite one. Nice latte as they use high quality milk and chocolate flower was amazing too not too sweet cuz it’s dark chocolate. Must visit this place if you’re in the city.
On a better end of croissant in Toronto. Almond croissant was pricey, but I didn’t feel too guilty about it since it was purely exceptional. Flaky, crispy and holy buttery with good almond cream filling. The croissant was also 2-3x times regular size from grocery store. My friends tried the danish and flower tart, both were lovely as well. Coffee here wasn’t spectacular, and caramel syrup didn’t really taste as sweet as I thought - hence 3.5-4 stars. Service was decent. Cute patio seating. Indoor seating was also bright and cute. Sum up: Pros: good pastries!!!!!! Cons: average and limited drink selection If you want to treat yourself with croissants that mesmerize ones in Paris, check this place out.
European style cafe with croissants and coffee. Croissants look very familiar to another East end croissant establishment, Le B***. Croissants were crusty on the outside with a sweet glaze of honey?, and soft and flakey inside. Pricey at $5-6 per croissant. Espresso was sweet with a smooth finish. Be aware, this is very different from beans from Starbucks. Beans are Colombian. Latte is $5.50 + tax. Service people were friendly and did not have to wait to be served. Overall, clean establishment...cute decor on the patio...a little pricey but not surprised in the current economic climate. More likely would only go here for a treat.
Went here to grab a quick little pastry to accompany the bubble tea I got from Baroness which was right across the street. This cute little bakery has a little modern touch to its interior and there are several seats located inside the store as well as a patio dining area. The pastries all looked very good, albeit a bit on the pricier side compared to other places, but after trying out their strawberry danish I could see why. Their baked goods were also on the larger side, so you were getting more for your buck compared to other places that had the same prices but smaller portions. The quality matched the price, the strawberry danish was buttery and flaky, and the strawberry jam wasn't overwhelmingly sweet and paired quite well together. I'll probably find myself coming here again if I ever feel the need to treat myself again. Overall: Food: 8 out of 10 Staff: 8 out of 10 Décor/Atmosphere: 7 out of 10
Really delicious croissants! The pastries are flaky, crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. These are a pretty penny but worth the coins. Personally faves would be the almond croissant, classic butter croissant and the prosciutto danish. Could use more seating inside but the cafe is a little small.
Picked up some croissants to go. Tried different variations. Its Crispy on the outside but does not fall apart while biting. The filling is perfectly sweet. The fruit is fresh, it was a decadent croissant. I personally enjoyed it despite indulging in it several hours after purchase it tasted great!
After seeing a bunch of reviews on opposite ends of the spectrum, it got me very curious and I have finally tried their croissants today. My first impression, the store was very beautiful and at an excellent location with a nice patio. Very elegant and beautiful for a girly talk with your gfs. Pastry case was filled with a variety of croissant flavours and then an empty case, followed by an assortment of tarts/personal size cakes. This was around 3-4pm, so, expected to have some sold out items by then. The person who assisted me was polite, and quick to serve me -overall, great service and experience. Now to the croissants: I ordered an original butter croissant and an almond croissant. Very very tall and super layered. They’re slightly on the chewier side but I am not complaining. It is super buttery and flaky. Pricing, personally, it’s slightly on the steeper end but, I can see they put a lot of love into what they do and the fact that it is in a prime location, I would understand their prices. The almond croissant had a creamier filling, I thought I was gonna bite into an almond paste -just a personal preference but again, no complaints here as well. Maybe I’ll be back for a tart/cake someday in the future, as they look delish. My only observation that I didn’t think it was great in my experience, I saw fruit flies in the pastry case. I know they’re harmless but it’s never pleasant to see something flying around the food that you’re about to consume.
Walked by and noticed they were having a soft opening. Bought a delicious peach croissant. Flaky, crispy. Perfectly balanced sweetness. I was told this is the only location and that they open on Saturday. I was also informed that some croissants take up to 3 days for the chef to make them and everything is done in French style.
One of the top tier patisseries in the city, especially in the downtown core. Excellent ratio of flaky, crunchy, and goey. I always say, the layers don’t lie, and they truly don’t at La Genie, whether it was a croissant, danish, or Brest. Quality ingredients and authentic french production and taste. Quite pricey but worth it. Great service too! I always go back to try new things!
