Fantastic customer service both in the branch and online. Also a good app for mobile. We have multiple accounts and a mortgage through Latah Credit Union and absolutely happy with this bank.
Never been more dissatisfied with a credit union. Way to pushy and odd behaviors. Highly recommend against.
Bottom line: don't bank here unless you want to be hassled. If you need to do shared branching, be prepared to be treated like a second class citizen. You are not allowed to use the drive up teller; you must physically come into the branch. But, only between the hours of 9:00 - 11:00 am and 2:00 - 5:00 pm. That's right, if you arrive outside of those hours, they refuse to do your transaction. It gets even worse if something goes wrong. I experienced a malfunction using the ATM again, needed to do some shared branching and that's only allowed during certain hours so forced to use the ATM. The ATM generated the following error message "This transaction cannot be completed at this time". This occurred after I inserted $120 cash into the machine. It provided no receipt and the money was not deposited to my account. The ATM stole my $120! I tried to call and speak with some to clear this several times, during business hours, each time the phone would ring and ring but no one would pick up. Finally got through to someone and got it sorted out which required another trip to Latah CU. When I asked WHY this error happened they basically said, "Oh, it's just one of those things". I asked, "So, no one is even going to look into this, maybe pull the logs and run some diagnostics on the ATM?" Sure enough, the answer is no. No one cares. I never even got an apology or any recognition of the inconvenience. I literally can't wait until that new credit union opens up next to the U of I.
I visited this branch today to try and access my account via shared banking. My CU wasn't a part of the shared banking network, so I was directed to the ATM. The transaction with the ATM popped up an error message. When inquiring help from the tellers, as opposed to coming out to the ATM to help with the transaction or help find a solution, I was simply told by the teller, from behind her station, as she wiped her face, my card is "wrong"... nothing else. I'm not certain if "card is wrong" is technical terminology, or if that was her way of informing me she was not willing to help alleviate the error message at the ATM. Regardless, this could have been an opportunity to gain a new member, as my CU is not in Moscow. However, I will not be returning to, or conducting any business at Latah FCU. I'm shocked at the poor customer service and unwillingness to help that this branch provided.
A nightmare if you move out of the area with an existing account. We moved to the Boise area and still had loans with Latah Credit Union. My wife has called in many times to make payments over the phone. Until one day a rep said my wife wasn't on the account and wouldn't allow her to make anymore payments so I had to call in. But the next month she made a payment just fine. Apparently this was a policy that some credit union employees followed and others didn't. I called and told them they've been letting my wife pay in the past and they said that wasn't possible. I ask for the credit card on file for past payments and low and behold it's my wife's. But nope, I'm wrong. So I tell Latah Credit Union I moved out of town and asked how I can get my wife officially added to the account so she can make payments through the employees that are hard-liners versus the ones that aren’t and I was told she has to physically come to the branch, which is 300+ miles away. I pointed out the large geographical gap and asked if there was a way to mail a form, email, fax, or any other option to add my wife without having to make a 300+ mile each way trip. Nope. No other option despite my persistence. I am a member of another credit union, Spokane Teachers Credit Union, and when I asked to add my wife to an account I had with them there was no problem. They emailed me a couple forms for us to sign and she was added to my account. It’s not that easy with Latah Credit Union. Latah Credit Union is absolutely unaccommodating. Don't they realize members move and still need to manage existing accounts? Don't bother with these guys if you can get away with it. They've been a huge headache for us. Sure your wife can pay the monthly payment, nope your wife can't pay, yep your wife can pay...freaking get your employees on the same page at a minimum. Preferably think about members that might have to move out of the area and provide some reasonable accommodations.
Great customer service and quick follow through by staff. I switched to Latah Credit Union from Potlatch No1 Federal Credit Union for 10 years. P1FCU customer service has noticably declined while Latah customer service has expanded and consistently exceeded my expectations over the last several years.
This bank can be awesome or terrible depending on your needs. For example it's not so great for small businesses. The manager and staff working there were really nice to me though. I suppose the national branch is what has been causing all the problems.
Until recently we have been very satisfied LFCU members for over thirty years and would have chosen a five star review.. Recent decision by the Board of Directors and CEO have caused us to have serious reservations about the management of the credit union and the direction management is going. I wish I could give it a less than one star now. The current management of the LFCU have decided to drop their affiliation with the FDIC: Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, in favor of a private insurance company. This is a huge step proposed by management and apparently rubber stamped by board members who are either easily herded into compliance by the CEO Lowell Stevens, or, are arguably, unable to assess the risk or even read and understand the following notice. “ If you are a member of this credit union, your accounts are currently insured by the National credit union Administration, a federal agency. This federal insurance is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government. If the credit union converts to private insurance with American share insurance and The credit union fails, the federal Government does not guarantee that you will get your money back.” When this type of events occurs, the first thought in my mind is who stands to profit from the change - in this instance surely not the customers. We stopped by the LFCU this morning to vote NO for this drastic and unnecessary change and learned that although we have a checking and savings account within a family trust account we were not eligible to vote because trust account holders don’t have voting privileges. Further, we were told that if even if we had a joint, stand alone checking or savings account only one of us could vote although though both us would enjoy account privileges. There is a meeting this evening, check the Credit Union’s home page for time and place, to discuss this issue and answers questions. I fear that regardless of the voting outcome the votes are being tallied by an unnamed organization, perhaps even the insurance company who stands to gain the credit union business. I believe the outcome has been determined. This morning a staff member of the credit union told us “they” wanted state jurisdiction instead of a “federal bureaucracy.” At that point we realized that a political agenda with, arguably, personal reasons for these changes had overridden common sense and sound fiscal policies. Thankfully, there is another credit union in town which retains Federal Insurance and appears to us to be a far safer alternative than a private for profit insurance company. If you are a member of the LCFCU keep an eye out for increased rates as soon as it is privatized and pray without all your might that if the private insurance company fails you won’t lose your life savings. Free checking, great service, and 24 hour ATM. We also refied our mortgage here at 1/4 of the fees Wells Fargo wanted for the same terms.
Friendly service. Have been banking here for over 15 years. The loans department is very helpful and the online banking and mobile app offer more services than many other banks.
