Habitat for Humanity is a faith-based 501(c) 3 non-profit organization whose mission is to work with family partners, sponsors and communities to build affordable, green, quality, energy-efficient homes and to provide support services that promote successful home purchase and ownership.
As one of 1,500 local affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International, LaPorte County Habitat works to bring together working families, volunteers, donors and other interested individuals and organizations. This community-based collaboration results in positive and dramatic effects on families and neighborhoods.
Habitat for Humanity constructs quality houses that are sold to home buyer families through no-profit, no-interest loans. Home buyers complete 500 sweat-equity hours and other requirements, pay for their homes and all upkeep, and maintain current payments on their properties.
LaPorte County Habitat for Humanity operates a ReStore to support our home-building efforts.
We are a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. We build with people in need regardless of race or religion. We welcome volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds.
To help support our home-building efforts, LaPorte County Habitat for Humanity operates a ReStore. ReStore hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. til 6 p.m. Saturday from 9 a.m. til 5 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.
Here's how it works. New and used items are donated, which are then sold to the public at 50 to 60% below regular retail prices. When possible, appropriate items are set aside for construction of Habitat homes. Income from the ReStore helps to generate funding for building more homes in LaPorte County.
