Lao Cai Chinese Cuisine is an independent restaurant on West Vancouver’s Marine Drive that serves Shaanxi style North-Western Chinese cuisine with a few modern dishes to complement its core offerings.nnThe staples of this cuisine are mostly flour-based carbs: hand pulled noodles, dumplings, and ‘pita breads’ buns, all of which they proudly make in-house. Their execution is praiseworthy as they appear to closely adhere to the time-honoured recipes of the classic dishes: the ’Stewed Pork Burger’, Cold Rice Noodle Salad, and Hand-ripped Noodle Dough in Lamb Broth all tasted legit.nnIn addition to these, we found their braised lamb chops and home-made dumplings to be fresh and full of natural flavour. The lamb chops paired nicely with the dry spice seasoning and pickled garlic a Shaanxi favourite!, and the dumplings were just oozing with meaty juices that explode in the mouth.nnAmusingly, we also loved how our Osamanthus tea was so fragrant that the lady who sat at the next table couldn’t help but notice it. She ended up ordering one herself after asking us about it.nnOverall, this is a great place to eat, and judging from the full house situation at lunchtime, this restaurant must be a crowd favourite. We saw many who came in groups ordered the duck soup to share hot-pot style, which seems to be another good reason to come back. Kudos also to the excellent service of the floor staff. Thanks for a great time.
Some of the best noodles and dumplings I've had! nSpicy chili oil dumplings were !nCumin lamb noodles were !nPan fried lamb dumplings were !nThe pork sandwich thing looks like an Arepa was so-so!nFor some reason they held our orders back until they were all ready at once which means a couple things were not as hot and fresh as they should have been. Noticed they didn't do that with the Chinese customers. Maybe they think we need all our food at once or something. ‍nAnyhow, highly recommend this place.n.
Had such a great experience at Lao Cai for the first time and shortly after the second time because we loved it so much!nnWe tried the Cumin Lamb Hand Pulled Noodles, shredded potato appetizer, sweet & sour pork rib rice dish and some of their fresh dumplings.nEverything was delicious!!nnThe service was also amazing, the servers are so friendly and attentive.nnOverall would highly recommend trying this restaurant. On the weekends and evenings it is probably best to reserve a spot as it seems like it gets quite busy!nnn5/5 hand pulled noodles
We adore this restaurant. After ordering takeout countless times, we came in for a sit down meal as we wanted to try the duck hot pot. Unfortunately, it was later in the night and the duck hot pot was sold out, and we tried the lamb instead. The restaurant was packed around 8pm on Saturday, and many families of all different ages were dining together. We ordered the North Chinese Tofu Salad, Sweet & Sour Pork Ribs rice bowl, and a handful of vegetable sides winter melon, wood ear and cabbage to have with our hotpot. My favourite dishes here are the tofu salad and the hand pulled noodle with tomato and egg. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is welcoming and warm, and the employees are accommodating, quick and kind. We really enjoyed our first dine in experience here, and will be back again!
I understand that many restaurant people criticize me for not giving out higher ratings. However, I believe that a 3-star rating is an excellent one. For me, it’s all about the product as described. The food was delicious, considering we only ordered two dishes. The price was very reasonable. The restaurant was also clean. However, I must mention that finding parking spaces can be a challenge. If you are in west Vancouver and looking for a quick bite, I recommend the spicy cumin noodles.
