The thing I like most about Lami is that it gives you the comfort of a home cooked meal while also putting a spin on the dishes to elevate them. We discovered it a couple of weeks ago and already have been back twice to get almost everything on their menu which rotates. - Maranao Beef Rendang: This rendang comes from a region in the Philippines and is more herb-y than spicy compared to Indonesian/Malaysian rendang. The beef is amazingly tender. Huge portion size for the price. - Adobo sa Gata: Every Filipino family has their own recipe and this is one you'll want to try. The chicken is a bit on the dry side but has a strong coconut and vinegar taste and goes well with the generous heaping of the sauce. The serving size is ridiculously good for the price. - Chicken Adobo Empanada: Chicken has hints of adobo taste which I liked. But the real star is the empanada pastry, which is super buttery and properly flaky. - Biko: A tad too sweet for me, but well executed. Sticky rice is always tricky, and at the size of this biko, this is well executed. - Buko Pie: Amazing! This is easily one of the best buko pies I've tasted here. They use coconut from the Philippines none of that mushy processed coconut gel so tastes much better. And again, that absolutely divine pastry. Lami serves up a proper Filipino meal: home cooked comfort uniquely spun, with portion sizes fit for the whole family.
Really good Filipino food by the most lovely chef!! Second time ordered from this place. It was so delish last time that I came back for more, and as it's summer time I could pick up from withrow park farmers market. Chef was very friendly. Online ordering was straight forward. Food was very tasty. Tried the chicken adobo last time, this time got the meatballs, the biko, the empanadas and the brekkie.
So happy I got to try this place. The food is so delicious! My brother has lived in the Philippines for years and so nice to have a taste of the Philippines in the neighbourhood. We had the rendang and the pork belly. The pork belly was my favourite and truly a stand out! We will definitely order again.
We have eaten from Mama Linda's probably over 100 times over the years and tried just about everything and never been disappointed. We've also introduced many friends to the food and gotten them hooked as well. We can't say enough good things about the food and wonderful chef-owner. Just shared some great dinner meals both meat and vegetarian with some friends and some toddlers and a good time was had by all. Only the adults got the excellent dessert.
Tried Lami for the first time tonight - delicious! The Maranao beef rendang is super flavourful. The chicken adobo empanadas were nice, too. They have a wonderful buttery/flaky pastry shell. How have I gone my whole life without trying archara!? Sweet / sour pickled papaya condiment. Dynamite!Recommended dishesChicken Adobo Empanadas 3, Maranao Beef Rendang
The best Filipino food I have had in downtown Toronto hands down — so glad I finally have somewhere to recommend to friends looking for great Filipino food! They host a supper club with several courses every last Thursday of the month, and I think I want to become a regular! David provided excellent service, very attentive, warm, welcoming, and accomodating !!!!
Great Filipino food! I ordered the pork belly and chicken adobo and both were very tender and spiced perfectly. The achara on the side was the perfect amount of acidity to help balance all the flavors. The Gerrard Street location is new, so I think they're still getting into the groove of the new operation, but the food and warm service from the owner is more than worth it!
Until now, Mama Linda’s was the best-kept secret at Withrow Farmers’ Market, where Maria first introduced food lovers to Filipino and Asian cuisine. She quickly earned a loyal following. It’s hardly surprising: Her food is exceptional and luxuriously flavourful. She also doesn’t scrimp — she uses the freshest and highest quality ingredients and you can really taste the difference. .
Mama Linda's has the most flavourful Filipino home cooking available in Toronto! Owner Maria Polotan is so talented with spices and takes so much care to add her own personal touch to every dish. My faves are her corn and black bean empanadas, Kalabasa sa Gata squash in coconut sauce, and Biko Sticky Rice Cake for dessert. Pickup at Mess Hall on Gerrard St is simple and quick!
Exceptional. One of the best meals I’ve had in a while. I recommend mama Linda’s food because it’s so comforting yet so sophisticated. You should go!
