I seek out small town local historic taverns. Ample Friday fish fry for $10. Seated, attended and fed quickly. Freshly breaded 3 pieces of fish. I'm a cole slaw lover so a side cup is never enough, but excellent. Marbled rye, 2 slices. Many potato choices; pancakes were ok but I've had better. Pleasant waitresses who check each other's customers as they pass, which you rarely see anymore. Felt very at home here.

Disclaimer: my mom has bartended here on Saturday afternoons for a few years now, and I'm familiar with the owners. because of this my opinions may be somewhat skewed. At first glance Lake Church is just another dive bar in an unincorporated town a short drive from the highway, but upon further inspection it has much more charm than that. The building is over 100 years old, and with it comes a beautiful tin ceiling, barn wood floors, and the bar is original to the building. These guys serve great drinks, but if you're gonna ask for a weird curve ball for a cocktail it may be met with a raised eyebrow and a question of what's in it. As the saying goes: if you don't know how to make it, you probably shouldn't be drinking it. This place serves up great food in obscene quantities at a good price, with different dining specials every day of the week. Come in on a Monday night and try the meatloaf dinner, complete with a thick slab of texas toast and a massive pile of mashed potatoes. Ask the locals: they swear by it! Great people, good food, and cold drinks in a charming old bar with lots of character. It's out of the way, but worth a visit.
