When brothers Joe, Gino and Massimo introduced La Medusa to the Montreal landscape, they brought their collective experience in Italian gastronomy to the table. Along with family members Marco and Michele, the brothers began their culinary journey in their native region of Le Marche in Italy, where they worked at Las Vegas, their uncle’s restaurant in San Benedetto Del Tronto. By the 1980’s, the trio continued to earn their culinary stripes in Italy, Switzerland, and later in Montreal where the brothers worked in the city’s top restaurants – Le Latini, Pizzella and Campagnola to name a few.
In November 1996, La Medusa saw the day on Drummond Street. As the years passed, the staff grew with the business and the restaurant earned the loyalty of its personnel and clientele alike. In 2009, Joe’s son Michele, freshly graduated from ITHQ, and Marco, joined the family business. That year, Arlequino, a wood-oven pizzeria right next to La Medusa, saw the day.
In 2016, the brothers decided to merge the two restaurants, grouping both worlds under one banner – La Medusa. Their vision remains the same today as it was twenty years ago, to be authentic in everything they do. La Medusa was born of a deep desire to remain true to recipes, ingredients and methods of their ancestral Italy. Their focus on only fresh ingredients and their commitment to make everything in-house and by hand, from pizza dough and pasta to gelato and other Italian desserts, have been the driving forces that have propelled La Medusa over the years.
