First year in the park. Extremely nice and surprisingly quiet compared to others. Owners are friendly are the rules are pretty standard as they come. My only issue is distance from amenities as I'm used to being in-town parks but not really a major concern. Beach is beautiful and private and a short walk from Goderich roughly 5km.
We love Kitchigami Family Campground. It is a small park that has a lovely private beach. We feel extremely fortunate to have a getaway on beautiful Lake Huron. Goderich and Bayfield are just 10 minutes away. I think that the stunning sunsets and moonsets and privacy make this place one of the very best on Ontario's West Coast. We have gotten to know the owners over the years and really appreciate the hard work that they put in to keep the park looking great.
We purchased a park model in this park at the end of last year, we are more than happy with this park. Everything is kept very clean, thanks to Peter the owner and we find everyone friendly. It is a quiet campground, just what we wanted. Our beach is incredible and the sunsets are spectacular.
Unfriendly, unwelcoming, not kid friendly. Don't now where the reviews are coming from. This park is the farthest thing from friendly. If you are a guest or newcomer, you are not welcome. All parks have rules, but this one is over the top with restrictions. Beach is rocky, trek down to beach is not suitable for elderly at all. The water is great but you can get that anywhere along the lake. And don't you dare make ANY noise, not even child's play. I watched a 30 people at the park pig roast, all sit and stare at each other not making a sound. No one talks, cracks a smile or says hello. It's a very strange park, it's like the movie "Stepford Wives" the seasonal people, just something isn't right here.
We love our tiny lake house at Kitchigami. The location is perfect as it is right between Bayfield and Goderich on Lake Huron. It is a quiet small park where you get to know everyone as there are only about 80 lots with permanent campers. We like that there is no overnight camping as this creates a sense of safety and community. There are park model trailers and travel trailers/5th wheels. Everyone at the park takes pride in keeping their place/lot looking great. Yes, the fees are a little expensive but nothing compared to owning a cottage. We would spend more on a week's vacation than we do for 5 and a half months of camp time. The family memories are worth every penny to us. The private beach at Kitchigami is amazing in its natural beauty. You can walk for miles in either direction. We never have trouble finding a spot on the beach and often there are only a few other families there. My kids love bringing a friend up to camp and playing ping pong, lawn games at the park and watching the spectacular sunsets. My seventeen year old son says it is his favourite place in the world....with no cable and wifi even! You can get it but we don't plan to as we want to unplug and have a a different experience here. We love being outside kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing and look forward to every weekend we can escape to our restful retreat.
This is our third summer in the park and we love it! There is a simplicity to this park minus the fanfare of swimming pools, mini golf, zooming golf carts and wild parties. Location is perfect between Bayfield for boutique shopping and dining and Goderich for everything else that Bayfield doesn't provide. This area along Lake Huron is on the bluffs so access to the beach requires a walk down a path or stairs and a hike back up. The beach is beautiful and we feel like we are on vacation every time we walk it, sit by it, watch the sunsets and swim. The park is small, peaceful, well groomed and the serenity it provides is appreciated by all. We are so grateful for our place by the lake, the owners who maintain the park and the friendships we have made.
No weekend or week campers. Seasonals only. Quiet and extremely well maintained grounds. Fantastic management. Love this place, the people, the area, cycling, hiking. The G2G trail Goderich to Guelph; so many beautiful trails. Goderich, the Prettiest Town in Canada! Bayfield is just a 15min drive. Great local breweries, cafes, boutiques.
The pro's of this park are, its very close to Goderich and the beach is above average. There are alot of cons. The park changed management a number of years ago, which is a good thing, because the old owners really let the park deteriorate. I'll say that the new owners have done a much better job up keeping the park and making it look presentable. A married couple owns the park, the wife is absolutely out of her mind. She is rude and very condescending. The husband is nicer to deal with but at the same time spends most of his day complaining about the work involved and how much money it takes to run a park. Maybe you shouldn't have got into the business if you weren't prepared for what it takes to run it properly ; With regards to the park fees, there is no bang for your buck here. Prior to this ownership group taking over the fees were roughly $2,000 a year 6 month season May 1 to Oct 31. The fees for a non lakefront property in 2019 are $3,300! From what I understand different people pay different fees, some get discounts while others do not. Also, you best mow your grass because the park will try and nail you with hundreds of dollars in mowing charges if it isn't kept short. That's what they threaten. Whether or not anyone has actually paid them I have no idea. Most parks in the area have free garbage collection. Not here. Your $3300 a year doesn't even get you a place to dump your garbage. It seems to me they try and nickel and dime you every which way possible. I believe in the past there was a 5% fee to sell your trailer and keep it in the park or $500, whatever comes first That has doubled this year, 5% or $1000. The camping season has also been cut short, 2nd week of may to the 3rd week in October, so 2 less weeks to enjoy the park, but higher fees... The beach area is definitely a highlight, if you can find a spot to sit. The owners permit the park members to leave their chairs etc all over the beach. Instead of cleaning up and moving your chairs to the tree line, most members of the park leave them "in their spot" on the beach, making it quite difficult at times to find a nice sandy spot to claim as your own for the afternoon. It looks rather junky. The owner should take more time to make the beach look more presentable and kick the residents in the rear end to not be so lazy and to clean up after themselves. In terms of amenities , there's a kids play structure, swings etc, there is a hall with a few games in it that's locked up alot of times, that's about it. If we didn't have so much invested in our unit we would have pulled out years ago, I guess its our fault for sticking around as long as we have. Hopefully our grandchildren, when they are old enough, will buy a spot that provides more for the money they take from you!
Would be nice if they had a real web site with map of how sites are situated like where in park they are located and location to washrooms and parking lot so he could say I'm reserving this site number for you and you could picture on map if that's where you would want it All in all well kept campground but a little expensive compared to other campgrounds and if you have a large truck with a large camper it's a little difficult to make the turn to get camper in and he doesn't want you to really back up on grass. Sites are pretty much right next to other sites no real privacy. Asked him twice for a fire ring he said he would put one and forgot still wasn't about to ask 3 times. I was in contact with him to be sure site was still being reserved for us when we got there he was showing us 3 sites one no way would we be able to back into one had no sewage service so we took the third option but site across street had no camper but stuff from old site still there so couldn't pull forward had to cut in on a sharp angle which is difficult with steering radius on a truck with dually's and couldn't use mirrors because of angle to see and hedges from site next to us made it more difficult as I said if you go stress you want a site easy to back into and don't run ac a lot Beautiful beach though small smooth rocks then sand
Beautiful Kitchigami. I can't say a negative thing about this place. The people all seem lovely and the owners are wonderful and helpful. The sunsets are stunning. I never want to leave!
