I'm going to review this for what I enjoyed it most as: Edmonton's only Tiki bar! So we're on the same page, we're talking colourful, tropical, juicy drinks, like Mai Tai's and Pina Coladas though neither classic is on offer. The space is beautiful, comfortable, and casual. For better or worse, it lacks the over-the-top, stereotypical Tiki adornments: fronds, grass skirts, wooden masks, tribal patterns, and parrots. I prefer the modern layout, abundance of natural light, and natural touches. Keeping in mind the Tiki style drinks, the beverages were good! Don't come expecting fancy cocktails with incredible depth. I enjoy those too, and you can find that all within the same ground level of the Marriott at their lounge bar or at Braven. I consider Kindred's Tiki offerings slightly elevated, with less reliance on rum, and a better variety of quaky base spirits, but still on theme in terms of tropical, easy drinking flavour. Bring a group to marvel and share at their impressive drink bowls! The only thing I think could be improved is how the food is priced. I get it's the Marriott in the ICE District. However, fine pricey food doesn't fit the fun, casual, Tiki drink theme. You can already order some really well made food at Braven and the lounge bar, so I believe Kindred should exist as the more relaxed, better priced option. Look, I'm not saying cheap, you can see from my photos there's quality and considered presentation here! Very simply: if their eats were more reasonably priced, Kindred could really carve out its own niche!
Great service! Had a great view of the ice district. Very cool at night. The food was great! You can taste the fresh ingredients that are used. We were there on a game night so it was busy and pretty loud but we could still chat comfortably with yelling. Perfect location for a pre game meal and drinks.Food: 5/5
Lucas or waiter was exception, shared a few great laughs! Food was pretty good, the best thing about this place is the wide variety of choices for your meal so it’s ideal in a group when everyone wants something different.
Went on Oilers game night. Ideal pre game location, love the atmosphere and service is excellent. Food was fresh and savoury. We party of 2 ordered the Stracciatella Cheese, Citrus + Bitter Greens, and Foraged Mushroom Risotto, which was delicious but a tad salty for me. Would definitely come back to try other menu items.
We had our company year-end party at Kindred last weekend and the quality of service we received was exceptional. From the planning process to the day of the event, their team has been very attentive and made our event a success. Our compliments go out to the Chef Jason Greene and his incredible team: Bryan, Angela, Hannah, Britney, Katrina, Nick, Louis and Tyler. Thank you for the amazing food and service and for making sure each of our guests had a wonderful time. We highly recommend Kindred to anyone looking for a venue for their next event!
Game night. The place was quiet when we arrived 3 hours prior to puck drop, but was quite busy and bustling when we left 2 hours later. Food was delicious. Tyler, our server, was fantastic! A little on the pricey side and they didn't have any drink specials on which was disappointing as their drinks are fairly expensive. But other than that, it was a great experience with the absolute best location to Roger's to grab a bite to eat before a game.
Had an enjoyable and lovely weekend brunch with a friend. Service was great and food was delicious. I highly recommend the Dutch Baby skillet!
This is a lovely place to spend time on a weekend, pre-game, or anytime; lots of light entering the restaurant, it has a nice view of the ICE plaza, and the menu has more of an Italian fusion which is nice and different from what you find in other restaurants in the plaza. Service wise wasn’t bad; it could be better. While we were there, there were not many people, yet we felt rushed even though we wanted to spend more time and perhaps other drinks
Best seafood soup I've have "salmon cioppino" salmon was excellent Food: 5/5
Absolutely awful. Buckle in folks, this place deserves 0 stars but I’ll give 1 because there’s no 0 option. We ignored what should have been the first red flag. This place was empty on an otherwise bustling Saturday night. Every other restaurant in downtown had waitlists. This place was virtually empty. I think just 3 tables were occupied with unhappy patrons but other than that, it was a ghost town. We started off this nightmare experience by ordering a bottle of wine. Simple enough. Well they brought the wrong bottle of wine out. A less expensive wine, because they “ran out” of the wine we ordered. We pointed out the error and it was brushed off. When asked if this wine is the same price, the server stated “yea same price”, which makes no sense. Sounds like the server was just making stuff up. so we decided to order another bottle instead. Server took the order and came back AGAIN with a wrong bottle. We decided to have mercy on her and just accepted this wrong bottle. We had to open the bottle ourselves, due to the server not knowing how to uncork a bottle. After our first sip, we realized it was warm . We didn’t want to create more of an issue and just accepted the warm wine. I tried to order some pepperoni pizza but was informed that they ran out of dough . I ordered something else off the menu but then when the food was brought out they must’ve found dough somewhere in the back because they brought out the pepperoni pizza. Lastly, at the end of the night I ordered my favourite dessert Affogato ice cream + espresso. I got a scoop of ice cream without the espresso! I asked the server why I didn’t get espresso and her response was because most people don’t like espresso. Like what?!?! Why wouldn’t I just get ice cream then?! I asked for the espresso and she told me the espresso machine was off and could not be turned back on. Then I asked for a refund at which point she talked to her manager and the espresso was eventually brought out at which point my ice cream had already melted . I talked to the manager to express my disappointment and he took my name and number to perhaps make me feel a bit better. Worst experience ever! Stay away!
