HOM is one of my favourite Asian fusion places in Edmonton - definitely recommend trying them out. The 4 restaurants here have such a great variety of options and fresh/new menus that I keep coming back to try new things. And for a group of people with different dietary restrictions, it's an ideal spot! Definitely recommend checking out.
It was amazing, first of all the ambience is so inviting. The food was 10/10, beef brisket sandwich was so juicy and yummy, the chicken and salad was tasty, the pina colada milkshake was yummy . My server Kelly with the green hair was so calm, patient and friendly even during lunch hour, Rene the manager with the glasses was very nice and helpful with everything we needed. I absolutely 100% recommend this restaurant/ food hall, I would be going back and taking my friends there.
TL;DR-poor customer service, inconvenient way of ordering, okay food Overall, it was very disappointing… For anyone who is planning on visiting, just take a look at the following pointers: -you need to download their app to be able to order and view the menu OR stand at the “order here” and look at their iPad to order the food which I found to be overall very inconvenient since you can’t even view their menu -we ordered on the app which required you to pay in advance including tip kinda odd that you have to provide tip in advance -food selection is somewhat variable. They have 4 restaurant options to choose from but two of them overlapped since one is the comfort food option while the other is a burger option. -my biggest disappointment was their customer service. We had ordered 2 burgers from Backstage Burger which were both unpleasantly salty that when they asked how the food was, we expressed that the food was salty. The response to that was, “burgers can be sometimes salty”, and they walked away. We weren’t offered an apology or a chance to get a new burger or anything of that sort you would normally experience at a typical restaurant. Honestly, I wouldn’t even give a star. I have never been so unsatisfied with a restaurant. I think that the place has a potential and the idea is unique but execution was poorly done.
I'm a huge fan of this place. I love backstair burger and their food is always on point. I love their crack fries. Right now they have a support dog for relief funds for those in need in the Ukraine. Check out the "bobba said knock you out" 5$ from every order goes towards supporting those in the Ukraine. Backstair burger also has been donating 100 hot meals every Saturday night to an organization called Nékem. To change something. Which delivers hot meals to the vulnerable community members of Edmonton and Edmonton river valley. We like to give a big thanks to backstair and the crew at 5th street food hall for all of your support!
What a great concept. From the moment we walked. We were welcomed. Four restaurants in one. Easybyo order on the app. Food came out quick. Very deliciousFood: 5/5
This little eatery has 5 pop up kitchens covering a wide range of tastes. There is some south Pacific foods, some mexican foods with a south Pacific funk, pizza burgers and salads, something for the vegans and pure joy for the carnivores. You could start your day here with a coffee and a po'boy and end it with a brew, a cocktail and some Thai curry. This is definitely a place you have to come to more than once. The pay as you order system and the menu is a bit different, but is part of the experience. The environment is well lit and dims as evening winds down, a great natural segway for our meal. The staff was friendly, though I was never sure who our server was and with the pay as you go system, tipping is weird and cumbersome. Parking can be a challenge as well - there are paid lots near by by 12 bucks for 45 minutes of parking on a Tuesday night means you should park in the neighborhood and walk, or take a bus or an Uber. Try the tacos from the tortilla place, the mole pork and the pork belly were good. The chicken satay skewers from Hoa where well priced for a beer snack and much better than peanuts or pretzels. Would definitely be back to check it out for other eats, and to see what pop ups come through next! Vegetarian options: Vegan and vegetarian options Kid-friendliness: High chairs and food options in line with a kids tastes. Parking: Expensive paid lots next to the restaurant, park in the neighborhood or get a ride.
Absolutely deleicous food and drinks. The meat shack has some delicous options, I had the St. louis ribs, and they were spectacular, especially for the price. My girlfriend had a vegan cheezeburger sub from seitans, and it was absolutely amazing. I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for deleicous food and great drinks with an awesome atmosphere. Our server was also very kind and quick with taking our orders. Thanks for giving us a great experience!
I really, really enjoyed my experience here. I had the St Louis ribs meal from the Meat Shack, and it was so flavourful and cooked to perfection - so tender and juicy, the meat just fell off the bones. I really liked the variety of BBQ sauces that were given to us to try, too. It reminded me of the sauces you get at MEAT by Whyte Ave, but I would say that the quality of the food and the sauces at the Meat Shack are noticeably better than MEAT. I liked that the coleslaw wasn't slathered in sauce or gross green dye; it was very light and tasty. The mac n cheese was phenomenal! Cheesy and so flavourful, but not too heavy or greasy considering it's mac n cheese. I stole a forkful of some of my friends' dishes, and they were all amazing, too. The BBQ brisket one friend got was so tender and juicy, and the green papaya salad from HOM was unexpectedly delicious. I thought it would taste weird, but it was actually incredible and the flavours worked really well together! I am definitely ordering one for myself next time. The decor is very trendy and modern, and very well put together. It had a very nice relaxing vibe and is a great place to have a fun relaxing meal with friends or family, or a dinner date. The bathroom was very pretty and spotlessly clean. That being said, this place does have a couple of kinks to iron out: 1. The ordering system can be a bit confusing. I don't have a QR code reader app and don't want to get one, so I just went to the Just Cook Kitchens website to order my food online. The tab system they have tripped me up; when I placed my order, the wording and the way the order status looked made it seem like the kitchen wouldn't start cooking my order until I paid first. I ended up accidentally double ordering because the server came around then and I figured I might as well exit out of the website and place my order with him they were very good about letting me cancel one order, though. I like the concept of this ordering system, but think they could benefit from somehow making it clearer in the ordering process on their site that your order has gone through without being paid for first. 2. The button/buzzer system they have seems to work inconsistently. Sometimes when you press the button, a server shows up promptly, at other times it takes ages. A friend who had experience with this type of ordering system said it's probably a flaw in the system, not the fault of the servers. When you press the button, your table comes up on a computer system that the servers can see, but only for x amount of seconds before it disappears. So unless a server sees that flag in the system right away, it will disappear without being seen, which is why we saw some tables get ignored while other tables got faster service. You will just have to keep this in mind and keep pressing the button if you aren't getting service, or just flag down a server. I see a lot of reviews mentioning poor service, and I would bet that issue #2 is causing all the problems, not the servers themselves, as everyone including the owner ?... I forget if he said he was the owner or the manager... seemed to care a great deal about this place and providing people with a good experience. Even with the couple of issues I noticed, I would rate this place a 5/5. My friends and I have already made plans to come back.
A newer concept for me. It’s pay as you order. But the food was good and so was the service. Lots of options to pick from for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Nice seating space. 1 less star is for parking. They have a designated parking area but even on sundays when the downtown street parking is free, they charged us for parking.
Amazing concept! Too bad not more seating : Our server was so upbeat, helpful and prompt! Both me and my bf loved this place! : Prices reflect portion size. Might be interested in trying the vegan restaurant if there was a smaller portions or a sampler as that's not my current food status. Also happy about happy hour wine prices : Vegetarian options: Vegan restaurant onsite
