Story

Our History

Kelly’s Orchard Plaza Fine Cleaners and Launderers is owned and operated by John and Colleen Kelly. John grew up on Royal Avenue in Kelowna. After high school, he attended and graduated from UBC. With his young family, he moved back to the Okanagan and purchased a small drycleaning operation on South Pandosy called “Southgate Martinizing”. It was 1974 and Kelowna had just been amalgamated to include Okanagan Mission, East Kelowna, and Rutland. As the Kellys apprenticed under an old time drycleaner, the volume began to grow and a larger space became necessary. On a weekend in 1976, the entire plant….. presses, boiler, & customers garments were moved to the new shiny mall down the street and “Mission Park Martinizing” opened its doors . Early in the 1990’s the Kelly’s sold Mission Park, but remained active in the drycleaning and laundry industry with “ Clean Start”, working with restoration companies & their fire and water insurance claims. Then in 1995, they purchased another retail drycleanng operation in Orchard Plaza and named it “ Kelly’s Orchard Plaza Cleaners.”
