Food was outstanding. First time ordering here. We've tried many other establishments but it was a no go, until this restaurant. We moved here from Toronto yes, we are one of the many who've moved here and we have been trying to find a restaurant that matched our palate to our favourite back in Ontario. This is it. We will be ordering from here from now on and we are glad it is just a few minutes drive away.
Worst Chinese food ever, fried rice only comes with few peas,No carrots is a joke! Ginger beef is some burn and dry . Better watch out with beef and broccoli way tooo salty! Not going to order this place anymore. Beware!
I ordered the sesame chicken and the beef noodles with black bean sauce. The skip the dishes order was smooth but slow. However the texture of the chicken is really weird almost like it's stringy dough and the noodles barely have any beef in them. It was the only place open late and I'm quite upset at the quality. I really hope this doesn't give me a stomach ache.
Dont let the photo fool you. We ordered the dinner for four and the only thing that was palatable was the fried rice. We had received two tubs of hot and sour soup with our order, which tasted more like hot thick vinegar; I nearly choked from the acidity. We also ordered a general Taos chicken, which was just as disappointing as the soup. The chicken did not taste like chicken, it was stringy, a bit fishy and had a soapy texture to it. My friends and I stopped eating it immediately after the first bite as we honestly weren’t sure if it was even chicken, or if the meat had just gone wrong. It was probably one of the most disappointing meals we can all agree we’ve ever had. Everything else was very mediocre. This food was so abysmal that four people with the munchies didn’t even want to eat it. I am Chinese and I feel offended. Please don’t waste your money, this place is honestly jolly not good.
Pictured is the order for one with the choice of entrees being beef and broccoli and ginger chicken, the pickup price was 17.50. Initially, I was quite surprised by the heft of the container when picked up but soon realized that its weight was due to the dish being mostly rice. The beef and broccoli 3 pieces of un-seasoned sliced beef and 6 pieces of broccoli, the 6 golf ball-sized chunks of ginger chicken not pictured were a notch above the beef but lacking in quantity. By no means was it expected to be AAA in quality or quantity for the price it was but had I known I would of opted for the fried rice and saved 4 bucks. Not likely to return and certainly would not recommend.
This was the worst quality of food I have ever been served. The salt and pepper pork had a werid breading if you can even call it that. Not the fluffy and crispy breading I believe is standard for that dish, and WAY to salty. I love salt but this was too much for me. The fried pork dumplings had a too thick gummy wrapper and when I tried to bite inside they smelled overwhelming like they had gone bad. Ended up throwing everything away for fear of getting sick, not to mention the rotting smell of the dumplings made my appetite go away instantly. I wish I had listend to all the other very bad reviews but like they mentioned this place is the only one open late. Would give Zero stars if I could.
The crab ragoon was very good, but unfortunately the rest of the order was very bad. The biggest issue is the weird texture of the chicken. It was rubbery and flaked almost like fish. Also did not have a good flavor. I have never seen or ate chicken with the kind of texture that was offered.
1st time we ordered pork & veggie dumplings and a couple other dishes. The dumplings were actually black on one side, the other dishes were ok, but way too salty. Today Feb 13/23 we ordered again 2nd chance food came fast; almond gai ding, Kung po chicken and they gave us free dumplings because of burned ones last time. The dumplings were cooked perfectly this time and tasty. However the almond gai ding was so tough we couldn't bite through the chicken, maybe partially raw or freezer burned, the Kung po chicken was the same. We eat chineese food often from various places and this is the first time we've felt sick after eating. I called to complain and the lady said why do you order and then complain? I assured her we won't be ordering or complaining again.
I order take out here quite frequently. There 1 person combo is priced better than anywhere else. Would I say it's the best Chinese food, no, but for what I pay and how consistant they are I am happy and have no complaints.Food: 4/5
We were hankering for some late night Chinese food, and we're happy to find that Jolly Good was open super late! The shop front is super humble, though that's not a problem with a place that only does take out. The service was quick and friendly; we ordered the dinner for two, which only took 15 minutes to make. The food was still nice and hot by the time we got home. Each item was packed well with cardboard separating each item and plastic bags covering the items that could potentially spill. The items we ordered were wonton soup, chicken fried rice, beef ho fan, and salt and pepper squid. The quantity of each item was massive. Each takeout container was filled to the very top of their containers; in this regard, alone, the value is there. The wonton soup was had a light and tasty broth. The 6 pork wontons were all a decent size with a good taste. This was the dish that my fiance liked the most. The chicken fried rice was a bit of a let down. With tiny pieces of chicken, egg, and a pea every so often scattered in a huge box of rice, there wasn't much taste in this item. The chicken was also a bit on the drier side. We probably liked this dish the least. The ho fan was quite good with big chunks of velveted beef. The noodles weren't brittle, and the dish wasn't too oily. My only gripe about this dish was the size of the chopped onions being much too big. That aside, though, this dish was delicious. The salt and pepper squid surprised us. At a glance, we've never seen salt and pepper squid like this, so we were unsure what to think. After trying it, though, we liked it quite a bit. The batter is crispy without being too hard, the squid had bite without being rubbery, and the taste was flavourful without being overpowered with spice or saltiness. If I could ask for improvements, I'd recommend less batter, but that wasn't a huge issue. We enjoyed this dish equally to the ho fan. While we won't be making this our go to place for Chinese food, the portion sizes and late night hours will probably have us coming back when the moment strikes.
