Johnny's

Nice place in Downtown Schenectady to get a drink at the bar or get a table for dinner. It doesn't matter where you decide to eat, formal in the back dining area or informal at the front bar area, the service is great, the food is excellent and the drinks are great too. They have outdoor seating which is fun to be outside, taking in the sights of lower State Street, where shoppers flow in and our of all the shops of Jay Street and other attractions like Proctor's Theater. Reservations are recommended if there will be a big show at the theater, drawing lots of diners.

Anyone who truly knows Italian food knows that Johnny's isn't the be-all, end-all. Schenectady has WAY better Italian restaurants, especially ones who don't screw up orders. They also need to learn to answer their phone during lunch time for those people who want to place and order for pickup (because in house dining takes forever). It either rings busy, or it rings into an answer machine that tells you to leave a message for reservations. Very frustrating.

If I could rate it no stars, I would! Johnny’s was the worst experience I’ve EVER had at a restaurant! We saw our server 3 TIMES for the almost two hours they kept us there, and they ran out of bread before 9 pm! If you’re open as a restaurant until 11 pm, they should have things like this planned for. The food came to our party of 9 after having sat for an unimaginable amount of time, and thusly was cold and all of the noodle dishes were completely stuck together in one large lump! The food was not worth the price we paid, and I asked several people in the capital region where the best place for Italian food was. When I explained all of my complaints to a manager, because talking with our waitress (Catherine) had not been possible all evening, she left for an extended period of time, to come back and tell us she would give us a discount. I told her we have to split the bill several ways tonight, and she responded that was fine. So Catherine shows up with our bill, tosses it on our table and nods at me as I tell her we have to split it several ways and WALKS AWAY. I yelled her name (as it was very loud in the restaurant) and she KEPT WALKING. I have NEVER been so disrespected when I am to be PAYING for such garbage service!!! I will never allow this restaurant to be recommended to anyone that I know of up here, or recommended by any of my friends. Johnny’s is the worst!

Food and drinks were amazing. Delicious. My only concern is that our server seemed to be the only one on duty (we had a late lunch at 2:45pm). She was lovely and very attentive. But she was obviously being run ragged, and was forgetting things at times. She let slip that she hadn't eaten all day. This may have been her choice, but I feel having more servers on may alleviate this poor girl's load.

I have been here many times. Wait staff is great and friendly. I would say it's on the pricy side. Kids meals are well worth it it's like an adult portion. Nice atmosphere. Food usually is good.
