We were there for the birthday of my mother-in-law. The service was very good, the food was perfect oysters, bone marrow and fish in particular, the music and decor were spot on. It is expensive, but the total experience is unforgettable. It is worth the price.
What a fantastic experience! This was recommended to me by a friend of mine and it did not disappoint! Mind you, it is a little expensive, however, it is definitely worth it. I had to make a reservation three weeks before I went to Montreal because I know this restaurant gets booked up pretty quickly. So my advice is to make a reservation as soon as you can, if you are planning a trip to Montreal. The food was exquisite and very delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection as well as the baby potatoes. The ambience was great and the service was even better! This is definitely worth a stop and I highly recommend coming here.
Visited during a recent trip to Montreal as Joe Beef was universally highly recommended. The restaurant is best known for serving a mix of unique cuisine, including French-inspired dishes in seafood and meat. Service was all staff was very courteous, in greeting and in explaining the full menu. Staff were also able to recommend some dishes to me as a first time visitor, and were able to mention special and off-menu items as well such as a Beef Wellington which was mentioned in other reviews as a special item.nnOne of their classic dishes was their Lobster Spaghetti, which came with one half lobster served on a bed of pasta. The lobster portion was a generous size, with tail and claws included and made the overall dish fairly filling on its own. As for dessert, the Peaches and Cream Profiteroles was a great complement as it was not overly sweet given the syrup and balanced well with the vanilla ice cream.nnOverall, Joe Beef does live up to its reputation as one of the most highly recommended restaurants in the city. The restaurant has a cozy feel to it and is friendly for solo dining, especially if it’s a seat by the bar where you can occasionally chat with locals or watch staff prepare drinks, oysters and other appetizers in front of you. Highly recommended to get reservations in advance, as reservations open up one month before each day.
I had been looking forward to trying Joe Beef for years, and the experience far surpassed my expectations. Every bite of food, every sip of drink was fantastic. The staff especially Luna! are extremely knowledgeable and make you feel like you're dining with friends. Worth every penny. Get yourself in there!
I was excited to go to Joe Beef, since I had heard great things for years. Upon entry, we were warmly greeted by several of the staff as we walked through the restaurant to our bar seat. I always try to sit at the bar since you can chat with the staff, as they cook or prepare drinks. The service was outgoing and helpful, and the atmosphere was charming and cozy. We started with the escargot, which were great, but the butternut squash soup was absolutely spectacular, and by far the best thing of the entire meal. After that, we had the duck, and the lobster pasta, which came highly recommended. The duck dish was succulent, apparently “free range” which gave it a bit of a gamey taste, and it came with a gorgeous savoury sauce which included delicious duck hearts. Unfortunately, the lobster claw, still in its shell, that came with the pasta was a little off, not exactly fresh, but the other parts of the lobster were great. We finished off with the “Profiteroles Poire & Chocolat”, an ice cream, pear, cookie and chocolate dessert. As I understand it, the ice cream was homemade which helped make it a wonderful dessert. All in all, we had a great time, but I have to say that the food was good, but not the kind of “blow your mind amazing” that I hope for from a high-end restaurant.
