Jan's Valu mart

While on business or pleasure in North Renfrew we always stop in at Jan’s. Recently taken over by Loblaws Corporate the store is clean again, doesn’t look like a yard sale and after months-the bakery is turning out fresh baked products! Deep River needed the bakery bad!nn@perbank keep up the great job!

This place should be renamed the ‘Land of Dissatisfaction’. Consistently over there past year the quantity of products in this store have been reduced and or removed. Every time I go in, there are empty shelves and coolers. They advertise attractive or good sales but rarely have the actual product to sell. A great example: this past weekend they advertised a 4 day sale on t-bone steaks. The sign in the store had a ‘sorry out of stock’ sign over the sale sign for the entire weekend. This is the only grocery store in town and it shows in the owners effort or lack there of, to provide for their customers.

It used to be impossible to get a hot meal after 5pm. Everything was always sold out. But the last couple of weeks there's been chickens, wings and wedges all available after 5pm. So happy to know that I have that option now :

Stay away from the butcher area. It smells like bleach and rotten meat.nOtherwise, the store is great with an amazing selection of items for an international cultural gastronomy.

Isolation Chronicles: Part SixnnMy mom lives in rural Ontario approximately 3 hours north of Ottawa where we live, feeling helpless to help her with what she needed. She is in isolation, as are we, and doesn't have the luxury of many stores nearby none in fact, closest being about 30 min away. Groceries under the best of times are a thought-out event for Mom, let alone during a pandemic!nnWith bad asthma, we didn't want her to go out needlessly even for necessities. I contacted Jan's Valumart to see if there was anything they could do.nnThey responded within minutes of my request, professionally and efficiently. The store was well stocked and had almost everything Mom needed AND they delivered to her 30 minutes away! Contactless! Less than a few days later. WOW .. talk about taking care of your community.nnIt was easy to pay with credit card over the phone, and her and her team were wonderful to deal with. Unsung heroes during these times of need.nnI was astonished by the care and attention given to my request. Thank you, Jan!
