Story

It's a weeknight and you're feeling a bit like "Mad Men" super ad man Don Draper. It's going to take at least one (or maybe three) martinis to forget your troubles. Only problem is that $500 plane ticket to New York – and your key to a swanky night on the town – is totally out of reach. One of the first places I found a year ago when moved here, still a favorite. The outdoor patio is open again, the menu is deep and always changing. And the Tito's specials are always the best part of the visit.

Great local bar and handcrafted food. The Fresh Oysters were fabulous!! They warm spicy feta dip is my favorite!! The fish and chips were nothing to write home about. The fish was it crispy and the fries were soggy. Of course the martinis with blue cheese olives stuffed by hand were magnificent!! The ambience is intimate with a beautiful fireplace.

Amazing truffle fries and beer / bourbon selection. I started coming here when they opened (like a decade ago?) and I come back every time I’m in town.

We enjoy James Bar and also the adjoining bar Al's & Vic's, where you can also order from the James Bar menu. The food is delicious. Staff is prompt and friendly.

Decent food and poor service. I’ve come to the James Bar three times in the last year, and the service was garbage each time. For my first visit, I went on a weekend evening and waited 10 minutes up front in an attempt to be seated. I wasn’t even acknowledged, and left before the staff ever took note of me. For my second visit I went with my girlfriend later on a weeknight for drinks. We sat at the bar, and the bartender seemed more intent on flirting with the server than he did on earning a tip. Most recently, we went on a Saturday evening, and received inattentive, forgetful service from our server. She made multiple mistakes on food and drink orders, and didn’t pay attention to anticipate further drinks or even ask how our food was. The servers and bartenders also seemed overwhelmed by the workload. Two servers is inadequate for a restaurant that size on a Saturday night. I’m disappointed overall. I think the James Bar has a lot of potential, and I’ve heard service used to be much better. Hopefully they can fix the service issue and bring it up to par with the venue and food.
