Visited with my two year old for their toddlers and trains program. This is a great place for kiddos; lots of space to run, train tables with kids of trains, and lots of sweet volunteers. The program was great, we could have done with one less story there were three, and it was a long time to sit for little ones but it was a fun morning!
Fun train museum, interior is warm, sheltered from the weather, full of trains. The have a lot of exhibits, covering James J Hill, the Empire builder, and other key minnesota trains.you can get up close and walk through several of the trains, there is a cafeteria area, a model train exhibit and you can take a short ride in a caboose outside along with see some more train cars including a giant plow. They should open an etsy store for their Blacksmith crafts.
We went for a train ride and had to wait 20 minutes or so before the train started moving it was tough keeping the little ones occupied, then it was maybe a 15 minute ride. The Easter Bunny came on the train, which was fun, except I had to explain to my 4 year old why she could see the man in the custome he was very visible through the bunny eyes. After that we only had 20 minutes or so before they closed. It was just the right amount of time to look through the museum, and go through all the train cars. If we didn't have to wait so long to get going on the train, 40 minutes would've been the prefect amount of time here with young ones. It wasn't very busy, even on a Saturday afternoon.
Same as the Train Museum. Highly recommend. Very friendly staffWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$16–20
Very cool setup! My almost-2yr old LOVED it. I wasn't sure what to expect, & was very impressed coming from someone who doesn't have a special interest in trains. You can actually walk through historic train cars to see what they were like and there's an expertly crafted mini train display that was fun to see and was endlessly entertaining for my toddler. They also have the massive steam train from Lunch with Casey being restored there which was cool to see even though I've never seen the show. Some things to see in the museum, repair shop, as well as outside. Seems like there's something for every age to enjoy! We'll definitely be back!
Jackson Street Roundhouse was spectacular. Take a walk through time here and see the passenger cars, dining car, mail rail car and caboose. Very nice models and activities here. Children are very welcome at this museum. There is also a gift shop. It is an excellent place to go to. Make Jackson Street Roundhouse your next stop.
This is a great train museum and has short train rides on Saturdays. There are a lot of hands on exhibits and toys that keep kid's of any age - train tables, Legos, coloring, train simulators, models, etc interest. Old passenger cars to walk through and equipment to see. Highly recommend stopping in and visiting for a couple of hours.
We celebrated my son’s third birthday at the Jackson Street Roundhouse and it could not have been a more perfect day. The volunteers and staff are so friendly and helpful, the museum has a variety of exhibits from toy train tables to engine cars to passenger cars to a huge electric model train display, and the added bonus of the train ride was amazing. The dining car that they use to host parties is in excellent condition and it was warm enough for all of us on a 50 degree day. Overall, we would give it more than 5 stars if we could! Oh, and the Teddy Bear Band playing rounded out an already perfect day making it something magical in the eyes of our little birthday boy. Thank you JSR!!!!!
If you're a railfanner, this is an amazing place for you...or for anyone at any age. Plenty to see and do, including a ride on an old railcar. On site food & gift shop. Definitely worth the trip & admission.
Epic place to bring your kidos..very fun atmosphere. History is in the air. I miss these street cars. Wish we still used them over buses, to boot I train should be running from the cities to Duluth.
