After having a real bad experience with ICBC, I finally spoke to someone today that seemed to actually really care. His name was Ryan and works out of the call centre in Victoria. He was kind and sympathetic and went out of his way to try and see how he could help me.nnIn 2018 I had a medical experience and became unconscious at the wheel. Fortunately there was no one was seriously injured and when I came to in the ambulance, my very 1st concern was that there was no one seriously injured or worse. The paramedics assured me everyone was ok. I was charged with careless driving, and 9 month license suspension. When I went to my court date by public transit and went through the charges, I asked the judge if I should hand my licence over to her for the suspension. Her answer was “Absolutely not…just don’t drive for 9months!”nnSo that is exactly what I did. Nobody contacted me by mail, email, telephone…absolutely no correspondence whatsoever. I had plenty of correspondence from ICBC regarding my annual insurance renewals, an insurance rebate and then my notice to renew my license on my birthday in 2022.nnSo, the day before my birthday, I went to ICBC to renew my licence and was informed that my license was no longer valid, because I never suspended it to them. I was new to this. Nobody, not even the judge told me I had to relinquish my license but to just not drive for 9 months…which is exactly what I did. So because I had not received any communication from anybody, apparently I was driving with a non valid licence for 3 years. In order to get my license, I would have to take my learners and my road test again and pay a $400 fine.nnI don’t know about anyone else, but if the same thing has happened to anyone else, I’d sure like to hear about it. For not to have been given any information whatsoever when this happened, someone let me slip through the cracks and I have to pay for it. I also lost my job because it required a class5 license.nnI have tried to reach out to ICBC several times hoping they would take some responsibility, but haven’t been too lucky. However, talking to Ryan today at Victoria call centre, I feel like I’ve been listened to. Unfortunately, at 64 years old, I still have to go and take my learners and road test again and $400. When will we have an option other than ICBC?
I passed my class 5 road test here. The staff and my examiner were extremely kind and supportive. During the test, my examiner gave very clear instructions and gave me enough time to think and act. She even gave some positive feedback after the test. Overall, a great experience. :
Jeff was my road test examiner - he was clear with his instructions, patient and friendly. I didn’t feel nervous with him, he made me feel at ease and confident with my driving.nBoth Jeff and the receptionist were friendly and cooperative! Good experience
Failed the test for going over the speed limit. No excuse.nOther than that are just stories about stop lines pretty sure I stopped before the signs and the lines and shoulders check scamming things.nTurn your head like an owl so they can see it, make it dramatically as much as possible. Trying my luck at other locations then…nnAlmost forgot, the guy at the checkin counter asked for my second ID so I used the valid one that they had on file when I first registered my license but seems like he’s clueless about the requirements on ICBC website on second ID and accepted it after awhile. nnKeep complaining guys. It’s unionized, nobody cares, nothing will change. They reply because it’s their job. Please be kind to them.nnPut everything you want to say here, then have some sweet and try again. I’ve already burnt out from work and life so here is my 2 cents
The staff were all very nice and helpful. I think there was a glitch with my appointment, but the staff figured it out, and I was in and out before my set appointment time even started! The woman who helped me with my renewal was very friendly as well. I didn’t get her name, but she was wearing a pink sweater. I’ve always had good experiences when I’ve been to this location.
