All my Four Children’s were born here. I have come to know some of the staff here. Even though the building it self is old the services and staff are amazing. I love the fact that it has underground access to HSC General Hospital. This mean if you want to go and get a cup of coffee you don’t have to worry about weather or unsafe street. You can just walk all the way there in no time.

I've had longish stays in many hospitals. The doctors here were much more worried about my comfort and did not send me home too early to take care of myself. They made sure I know I can go back to triage instead of emergency. The nurses were wonderful and the doctors were east to talk to and helpful. These are by far more comfortable beds than any hospital I've stayed in. The room may have been cold but that's what blankets are for. A lot of the negative comments sound like women who assume that their own issue is the most important.

I just got off the phone with receptionist, who had sent me on a goose chase and connect to lines that aren't even open yet! Simply asked if she could pull my doctors name and she hung up on me!! Terrible service this morning.

My first experience (childbirth) at WHS great. The second one (surgery) not so much. The food was great as the first time and personal that was managing food and drinks through the day were friendly. You can ask for extra snacks between meals as well. Some nurses seemed pretty annoyed, in general. When after 4 hours after surgery I asked for a water refill from one of the nurses, who kept walking back and forth into my room, she rolled her eyes .... (idk, maybe I wasn’t suppose to ask her that or that’s too much for her as she is a NURSE and they not meant to bring water. No clue.) I don’t really care who brings me water, so if it’s not your job to do, just ask the responsible for that staff and don’t show patient that you don’t give a s*%t. That’s pretty rude and disrespectful to any person who practically disable to do anything on his/her own at that moment. Another moment was after 6 hours after surgery or so. The nurse that was attached to me said not try and get up to go to washroom especially if I feel dizzy (getting off the general anaesthetic and being on strong meds). The room was spinning and I didn’t want to risk falling. So I called the desk. They sent me a girl (not a nurse, I’m not sure what she was.). So asked for a bedpan and she stared at me like I was out of my mind and said “well you can just can go to a washroom. I can help if you want” ummm ok. I tried again. Explained that the room is spinning, I’m short on breath and don’t want risk falling and tear stitches in my stomach. She seemed puzzled and said she gonna ask a nurse if she can bring me a bedpan... 🤷🏻‍♀️ Another interesting moment. The doctor suppose to come after the surgery to tell me what actually happened during the surgery (as there were few possible scenarios and none of those actually happened). So first day doctor didn’t come and nurses were saying doctor will come the next morning. It’s understandable, doctors are busy and nurses don’t control them. So the next, new shift. My two nurses on question “when my doctor will come” had different answers. One was saying that normally doctors don’t come to a patient after surgery. The second one kept apologizing and trying to find the doctor. The second nurse gave me 5 different version within couple hours of what happened during my surgery. And finally in the late afternoon they were able to find the doctor. It wasn’t pleasant to hang in there and try to understand what happened and what’s next and how’s your life might change. 4 stars, as I get it, s*^t happens and nurses and doctors are humans too. But I wish people who chose a care giving career would at least pretend to care.

Shame on Manitoba to have such a decrepit maternity ward. It feels like 1938 in these rooms. Avoid.
