I was referred to the Hope clinic when it first opened because of my severe mental health issues. Upon my intake, the lady that was doing it be rated and got mad at me because I said I don’t know if I could do group sessions. I would prefer individual because of my anxiety. She told me I could go pay for help somewhere else because that’s what they do, I immediately shut down and left extremely disappointed as it had taken a lot of courage for me to even go, Again recently, my family physician referred me back to the clinic developed a nerve Disability that has sent my mental health spiralling out of control, and I had contemplated suicide. I brought my significant other as my thoughts were very scrambled at the time and the gentleman that was doing the intake refused to talk about anything that I assumed I was going for support for suicidal thoughts. But he told me he was just there to tell me that I have a chronic pain disorder. No help to me whatsoever. I never dreamed of a medical system that you could tell your family doctor and counsellor that is state of the art facility And let someone walk out the door, knowing that. I could never recommend this to anybody. Cold and Uninviting
Psychiatric nurse was nice, psychiatrist was even better. I've only ever had bad experiences with psychiatrists and Anita was very non-judgmental. She was sorry that I've had so many awful psychiatrists. Being openly plural at this facility is a safe thing to do if you give the staff resources like the Plural Association and Plural Pride Playbook.nnImpressed with the array of offerings, especially the support groups and research opportunities. Might give them a try.
This centre is beside LionsGate Hospital. Donated by Evelyn & David Lam. It’s a place for Psychiatry & ongoing care. Nice clean building, friendly staff & a Blenz Cafe for coffee & snacks.
I received nothing but warmth, care, and patience at HOpe. I was admitted for suicidal ideation, but even after I felt safe enough to be on my own and go home, I was kept longer to explore a much more serious and long term disorder. After a few tries at getting my medical right doses, and after several sessions with my psychiatrist I have a much better understanding of all my past painful and destructive behaviours. I finally feel like my life makes sense, and can make moves and decisions that are healthier. I appreciate the staffs sense of humour, patience, and willingness to work with me as we tweak my doses and adjust to a new mindset. It's not going to happen over night, but I finally feel like I can take control of my life. I think I owe all my future health, joys, and successes to the clarity HOpe and Dr. Lim Provided. With Gratitude.
I've been attending the centre's knitting group for about 5 or 6 years now, as well as receiving treatment. The therapists and personal are compassionate and understanding, and the many community activity groups are fun and welcoming to everyone. It doesn't matter your age, ethnicity, or experience, all are welcome so long as you're open and compassionate in kind. The centre has a great atmosphere because of the people who work there, and I've never felt so welcome outside of my own home.
