The thing that drew me to try Hong Bo was seeing the shrimp burger on the menu, as not many places offer this! This is what I ended up ordering for my first time here and I was not disappointed. The shrimp patty was so tender, you could really feel the shrimp used and this mouth-feel contrasted with how soft their buns were. Even though they only topped the burgers with lettuce, red onion, and mayo, it was very flavorful. For my second experience, I decided to try their crispy chicken burger. Unfortunately it did not compare to other places and/or how good their shrimp burger was. Even though the meat wasn't dry, it wasn't all too tender either. The batter was kept thin which was nice but could have been crispier and less greasy. The same condiments are on this burger as well, and again, it is flavorful enough. I love their bun options which include the original sesame bun, beet, or charcoal. These are unique and so soft!
Great little shop with decent burgers and good services. The burgers came in generous portion and the flavour was great. I was impressed by the fried chicken: super crispy yet so moist inside. Their fries were also very good: crispy outside and soft inside. If you can, get the combo and order the iced coffee. It was thick, strong and not too sweet.
The buns are made by them. Very tasty burger with nice teriyaki sauce. The shrimp burger is very Japanese style The shrimp burger triggered us our memory of MOS burger in Japan! The ice lemon tea is Hong Kong style with strong tea favour and the sweetness is nicely balanced. The French fries is one of the best. We will definitely come back!
Ordered the chicken burger with a beet bun and the beef burger with the charcoal bun. The buns don't taste like beet or charcoal but the buns are incredibly soft, fluffy and light. The chicken burger was so delicious, really juicy and lightly battered with great crisp. The fries are thick, crispy and not overly salty. They have different types of poutine as well but the gravy is beef-based. The beef patty was underwhelming, overcooked and it looks like its a frozen patty note that I don't have confirmation that its frozen....it just appears to be a frozen patty to me. So this review is drive by the chicken, fries and the buns. If we got 2 chicken burgers, this review would have been 5 stars. Inside the First Markham Place food court, this is a definitely worth a visit. Portion size is great, very filling and overall, a delicious meat.
Generous portions. Had the shrimp burger with beets bun and chicken burger with original bun. Both were super satisfying. Original bun is really good with generous amount of sesame seeds. Crispy pork poutine was a tad too salty but texture of crispy pork was great. Forgot to get the highly raved coffee. Will have that next time!
I recently visited the First Markham Place food court and decided to try the crispy chicken and fries combo as well as the crispy pork and corn combo. I was pleasantly surprised by the great quality of the food for the price. The burgers were amazing and the ice coffee was a perfect complement to the meal. This has quickly become one of my favorite places to eat. The staff is friendly. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Decided to try this place on a whim and was not disappointed. Ordered two combos the shrimp and pulled pork burger. The shrimp patty was fairly large and packed full of shrimp l. The pulled pork was a bit dry and could have used a bit more sauce. We were so impressed that we ended up going back for the teriyaki burger which was better than the pulled pork but still preferred the shrimp patty. Sides were also spot on fries were crispy and thick while the buttered corn was sweet and savory. But the best part of the meal was by far the presentation of the burgers. They look perfect like they were pulled straight from a burger commercial.
I came here for their famous crispy shrimp burger. You can pick your own bun. There are three types of buns charcoal, original & beets. They are all homemade. I got the crispy shrimp burger on a charcoal bun. It tasted very fresh and crispy. There was real shrimp in it. Although it was quite expensive for just a burger itself, the quality was really good. I think it’s ok to buy one & treat myself once in a while.
Came here for lunch after hearing good things about the place. In particular their shrimp burger. We ordered the shrimp and teriyaki beef burger, teriyaki burger was a decent burger. Shrimp burger on the other hand was really good and contained a decent amount of shrimp. Toppings are already included. Can order a regular, beet or charcoal bun. A nice place to get burgers overall. Will come back to try their other menu items.
Hong Bo is such a nice "hidden" gem in the First Markham Place food court amongst all the Asian eateries there. Their signature burgers are well-priced for what you order. The novelty of the different coloured types of buns - regular, charcoal, beet, and spinach - are just an added bonus with how tasty the burgers are. Definitely recommend the Crispy Shrimp burger $8.25, which you rarely see on menus, and the Crispy Chicken burger $7.25. They also have an assortment of poutines, spaghetti, and salads that looked to be well portioned. Service was swift, friendly, and polite. Honestly, if they were located anywhere else or became more mainstream, they would probably have longer lines. Definitely coming back and trying out the other burgers!
