When we arrived, we discovered a lot of renovation work taking place but thankfully it did not disrupt our stay too much. Our recently refurbished room was fine and had a great view of the harbour. What I did notice was that the new curtains could have been pressed or steamed before being hung, they still had all the packaging creases in. Also the newly refurbished bathroom still had workmen marks on the shower area so someone needs to check the contractors work after completion.nnWe enjoyed a nice meal in Eaves restaurant. Some of the Reception staff were more helpful than others, maybe a little more teaining needed.nnComfy beds and a good night's sleep!
We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Holiday Inn Sydney. We were in room 216 and I was pleased with our experience. We arrived an hour before check-in and our room was ready. I loved that our room was right beside the elevator. Hats off to the housekeeping staff, as our room was spotless clean. We didn't require housecleaning on the 2nd day, just a replenishment of some items, which we were able to get from one of the maids going by with her cart. We had the King size room with a sofa. The bed and pillows were sooo soft and comfy! I like how the bed was around the corner in a separate area from the rest of the room. In the bedroom area was the bed, sofa, desk with chair, and TV, along with the 2 night tables and phone/radio. Around the corner was our kitchenette area, the table and chairs, microwave, fridge, and coffeemaker, with a nice big window with an amazing view over the water, and another TV. The bathroom had Dove toiletries which was wonderful, and a nice big shower. The A/C worked well, and it was a constant back and forth with hubby, as I like the A/C and he prefers it off. Their breakfast buffet is one of the better ones we've been to. The food was fresh and hot with nice variety; scrambled eggs, omelettes, bacon, sausages, french toast, waffles, pancakes, with hot oatmeal, cold cereal, toast, pastries, and fresh fruit. They served our coffee in a carafe and was a good coffee, and we had juice to go with it. If you stay here and have the option to include their breakfast buffet, do it! You will not be disappointed! We would definitely stay here again. Thank you to the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.
Good: hotel dominates the skyline and my room had a great view of the harbour. The people on the checkin desk were great. As were the folks at the Crown pub. The fancier restaurant not so much. The room i had 801 was spacious with a view and was clean.nnNegatives: Room - It did have some wall paper separating itself from the wall, holes from where something used to be mounted, stains and scrapes on the ceiling.nnSmell - main floor and hallways have a smell of mustiness which is a little off putting, but my room did not have this smell.nService - the expensive restaurant - I was waiting to be seated by the door - while the server chatted and was taking the order from a table of 6-8 people. There were several other tables already seated. A couple came in behind me. Despite seeing us, the waitress didn't acknowledge us or say she would be with us shortly or that someone else would be over. After 5 minutes of this I left and went to the pub where the service was top notch. Pass on the seafood chowder though. The donair flatbread was a pleasant surprise. Like in the southern USA, the wait staff asked if I would like a refill on my soft drink to go. Bonus points.nnThe gravel parking lot to the right of the hotel is where you want to be with a 20 foot long pickup. It's gravel surface sucks for rolling a suitcase or if your GF has heels, but its spacious . Had to do a 5 point turn in front of the main hotel door as there were 3 cars trying to park in the paved area though the covered entry way plus me and another vehicle trying to enter as well. That lot area is fenced at the far end so you cant loop around and if full - you may have trouble getting out / turning around. I had a job with pedestrians around making that 5 point turn in a 22 foot long pickup truck.nnNote there is construction & maintenance work happening at the hotel. So hopefully it will return to its former glory soon. But currently is showing that middle age is taking its toll. I can relate.
The place was under construction, so there was some serious noise from about 0700 to 1730 listen to the video. There were also two neighbours who were loud. When I mentioned it to the desk clerk at checkout, he did not acknowledge my construction concern, but was very concerned about contacting the guests to tell them to keep it down. The buffet breakfast was basic, but good. They had extra crispy bacon, but also some squishy bacon, so you could pick what you like. Restaurant staff were friendly too. The view was wonderful, but the bed was lumpy. Like sleeping on a feather pillow that requires constant readjustment.
Hotel under Reno’s, place looks like crap even after the quick Reno’s. I build houses for a living, what crap contractor outfit you got building this place. On top of the renovations the paid parking was bs, why should I have to pay $7/night to park when I’ve paid to stay on your property?? What a joke. This place is sub par, average hotel, another old establishment trying to offer “high level” cuisine dining in a dive of a building with crappy parking. Do better
