Hive Café Solidarity Cooperative

I've been involved in the coop since it was just intentions on a student petition. Since then we've grown to almost 5000 members, two locations, 2 kitchens, and we offer a really delicious free vegan lunch to hundreds of students a day. It's vegan partially because it is accessible to the widest number of people that way, regardless of, say, religious reasons for not eating various food items, among other reasons. We are in our third year right now, and it is our best one yet. This is a community supported project, launched with funds from the community for the community, and if success continues, it will become the university's food-provider. Imagine that, the community will have re-created it's food-service from the bottom-up, and the control of the food-system will be in the hands of the users, support organisations, and the people who work there. It is truly a revolutionary project. and is on track to become a model for other universities to follow.

Everytime I come here they are out of something I want to order, whether it's a specific tea or caramalized onions for my grilled cheese. Otherwise it has a cool vibe and tastey food.
