Hawthorn Dining Room & Bar

I hosted my best friends bridal day at the Hawthorn for High Tea. The team was incredible, we had many, many, MANY severe allergies that were all accommodated. Some of these allergies were completely dairy and gluten free, fruits, tree nuts, pork and seafood, and each individual had their needs met and the food was superb. I know this is a big ask for a party of 14 people. They worked very hard answering all my questions leading up to the day of while working through the reservation, and the day of they blew us away with their incredible customer service and high tea offering. The food and tea was absolutely phenomenal. The bride described it as “absolutely magical”. Thank you to Monica for all her help and for our incredible servers the day of!

Fabulous ambiance and generally really good food. They have a fish and chips that could be improved as it's really greasy and was tough to eat. They also need to have a more varied chocolate dish, a nice mousse or a cheesecake would have been great.

I was there for dessert, dinner and brunch. Dinner was pleasant, I ordered light dinner, the salad has a different and new taste because of having pistachios in it. The soup was delicious. For the brunch, the buffet was very limited and disappointing and I decided to order from the menu instead. Ending up ordering Avacado toast which I wasn’t impressed the toast wasn’t crunchy and Avacado taste wasn’t good. Overall, in comparison to all of Avacado toasts that I tried in this level it was disappointing. That is why they lose a star for me. For the desert it was too sweet for my taste, but very professional and delicious. The waitresses was nice and friendly and the lady who decides where you can sit was not even asking whether you want to sit there or not. I ended up sitting on a couch that was not comfortable for eating.

We did high Tea on a Sunday was very good probably the best I have had in Alberta so far. Yea selections very good and the pastries and treats exceed our expectations. Happy as always with Fairmont staff and with atmosphere. Is it the most expensive tea in Calgary? Seems to be, but it’s also great food, and tea. The only thing this place is missing is a view, but the people watching is always good at hotels.

Great atmosphere, fantastic service, and an innovative menu make Hawthorn a must try. ——— We came to Hawthorn for our anniversary dinner and we had a fantastic time. Renata was very polite and helpful, she also gives amazing recommendations if you’re stuck on what to drink or have for dessert. We had the albacore tuna to start and it was a very crisp and refreshing way to start off the meal. The scallops were incredibly tasty; my girlfriend loved the decadent butter cream sauce and chorizo pairing. The burger was exceptional; great smoke/grill flavour and tasteful condiments that complimented the beef. I think our favourite part were the fries though, haha, think McDonald’s fries but way better; you have to try them. Finally on Renata’s recommendation we had the panna cotta which was amazing; very light, creamy, and a great way to end the meal. We highly recommend Hawthorn; a little pricey but the experience is worth it.

Great vibe, very attentive and helpful staff. Fries were quite tasty, and definitely not old school tarter sauce, still trying to place that tasty flavor.

We went for dinner at the HawHawthorn Dining Room. It was great . The.menu was limited but unique ..We god scallops , smoked salmon , steak and chicken . Food was amazing .They even gave a surprise Birthday treat .. Service was great too. Lovely calm.ambience perfect for couples or maximum group of 5. More capm.and romantic . There was free parking facilities too.

Tried it for the first time since moving to Calgary, it does not live up to it's hype unfortunately. We ordered $250+ in food and all 3 of our beef tenderloins were supposed to be medium rare and it was beyond dry and the manager told us that it was a little less than medium rare??? I've eaten at many steakhouses and I'm pretty sure it wasn't medium rare. The 2nd round of steaks came out again after complaining about it and they overcooked it just a bit still, we gave up because we waited 30-35mins for the first round of steaks and 20-25 mins for the 2nd round and were too hungry to bother having them re-do it but atleast the sauce was good, I don't know why this restaurant cut the steaks in half, of course it's going to dry out. The service is SUPER slow as well. It took about 15 mins to get my cocktail and another 15 to get the bill when there wasn't even that many guests and it was a Sunday too. The birthday girl got a cute little mousse cake with a sparkler on it for her bday by the restaurant, it tasted very good until the crust on the bottom of it had a very crunchy dirt like bite that was very similar to eatting an eggshell on one side of the dessert. Overall, it's a cute place but if you don't like your steaks overcooked and slow service with a pricy bill then this place isn't for you. Will never come back here again after that and i'd recommend The Keg instead.

Really disappointed in this years take home Turkey. We had it last year and everyone raved about it all year. We were very much looking forward to a repeat this year. Unfortunately there was just too many issues that I can’t help but write a review. The gravy was runny and lacked flavour. It was half of last years supplied amount. The stuffing was just large chunks of bread and no where near the quality or flavour of last year. The turkey was over cooked and the vegetables were incredibly bitter. The entire tray of vegetables is getting thrown out. The potatoes were bland and lacking in any sort of imagination. The staff are excellent and the service is impeccable but this years meal really made me regret the money that I spent on it. I could have done way better at home. Not the quality I know the Hawthorne kitchen is capable of. Unfortunately due to the price I don’t think I will take the chance next year.
