It's Christmas morning and we decided to come here for breakfast, one of the few places open. When we arrived at the front door where lots of people were waiting, we waited for about 10 minutes before a staff member came to check our vaccination passports. It took less than 5 seconds for me to take out my ID, but the staff started to complain how slow I was. Ironically, the man before me forgot his ID, and she let him enter. She pointed in the direction of our table and expected us to guess which table she wanted us to be seated at, so we just sat at a random table we chose, which happened to be a huge table meant for 10 people, for the three of us. The multilingual menu with all its combinations and options were extremely confusing to us. We had beef congee, steamed rice roll with dried scallops and satay beef vermicelli, and an egg sandwich. They were all very authentic Cantonese food, delicious. All combos came with a free drink and the price was very reasonable, good portions, too. I would have given them 5 stars but had to take one away because they were rude.
Seriously love every single food we have tried here! Definitely more busy than the past years. We love that they put back their old menu, so lots of food available to choose from. Great taste and reasonable portions for the price. We love their clubhouse sandwich, laksa soup, baked chicken on rice, pan fried chicken, pineapple buns, and HK style Iced Lemon Tea. Good service and reasonable wait times. Lots of parking spots around the area, but usually full during peak hours. Mild to moderate traffic during lunch/dinner times, especially Sunday mornings til around 3pm.
Went with 3 orders on a cold evening so we decided to order their promotional winter set meal with foods that are traditionally suppose to warm you up. Interior is super clean and bright. The complex the Cafe is located in has a parkade which makes this a good location as parking in Richmond can be a challenge. Service was polite and the waitresses were patient to explain the dishes and ingredients. The end of the dinner we were also served complimentary mung beam soup. Would come again if in the area!
I was told that Happy Day Cafe used tobe operated in other location and it has been up running for many years. Today, I went there with friends for lunch and it's packed. The lunch sets are very bargain, the price range is between CAD $11 to $19 including a main dish & a drink.
This restaurant deserves nothing short of five stars. The food was delicious - their sweet and sour pork was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside; their soup was flavorful; their yang chow fried rice was packed with shrimp; their large iced milk tea is not too sweet but well-made. The service was attentive. The food also came quickly, within 10 minutes of ordering. Thank you to the great team at Happy Day for making the dining experience so great.
The quantity and quality of the food at Happy Day Cafe is fantastic! My parents and I ordered the lobster combo with two dishes for $87. It comes with complimentary soup pork soup broth with picked vegetables and carrots and red bean soup for dessert. We chose the House Special Chow Mein crispy noodles with seafood, vegetables, and BBQ pork and seasonal vegetables with egg tofu. Everything was made perfectly. So much so that my dad was raving about the broccoli more than he was about the lobster! We had lots leftover as well. I recommend this restaurant for great Hong Kong style dishes!
I was really craving a HK cafe meal: pineapple bun with spam and butter, macaroni soup with ham with eggs. This place didn't disappoint. My friends got congee, rice noodles and fried rice. All the dishes were good and came out quickly.Food: 4/5
Came for breakfast at 8am on a Wednesday. A couple people were waiting outside just like us before they opened. We ordered and the food came really quickly. We got the pineapple bun set with egg and the C+D set which comes with classic omelette I subbed the toast with french toast and satay beef macaroni The Hong Kong style milk tea was pretty smooth and no bitter flavour at all. Just wished the tea flavour was a little stronger. The pineapple bun was mediocre. It was not as good as ones you can get from like Kam Do bakery. The top wasn't buttery and flaky enough. The omelette was pretty big and came with quite a bit of ham but it was a bit overdone. The french toast wasn't too oily. Pretty standard The satay beef macaroni was what I was looking forward to but unfortunately the satay beef had no satay flavour. Very plain and disappointing Overall wouldn't go for breakfast again. The price is standard.
For restaurants, it is usually a balance between quality or quantity. This place had neither. Had a better experience with the happy day Cafe on kingsway We noticed a lot of people ordering the duck skin wrap so that much be the signature dish of this place
The cook used the washroom and didn't wash his hands . I'm not sure if he's planning to wash them in the kitchen, but he should be washing his hands in the bathroom. Not only does it look bad in front of customers, but say he forgets when returning back to the kitchen. The food is pretty good, and I love eating HK cafe food. However I have to lower the score after witnessing the cook not washing his hands, otherwise I'd give it 4 out 5. The service is standard Chinese restaurant, not friendly but just quick and to the point. The decor is better than your typical HK cafe and modern.
