Hannaford Supermarket

Hannaford in Waltham was getting really good for a while through 2016 into 2017, upping it's healthy food options, offering a lot of local products - employees seemed happy and busy, the store was clean and well stocked, with folks available to answer questions, find stuff, etc... I would have given 4.5 stars then - but lately it's been _really_ bad. They have put in automated registers, which is okay, but coincidentally (perhaps low employee morale?) everything seems pretty awful. I put in three requests from August to October to restock a standard item they are _always_ out of.. to no avail. Maybe their management has all left, maybe they are being bedeviled by "corporate efficiency" experts. Stock is low, produce is tired, cleanliness suspect, unpleasant odors the norm, no small carts to be had. There's big crates of stuff nobody would want to buy as you come in. The lighting seems extraordinarily uncomfortable. My only choice the other evening was self check out, since the only live cashier was operating a 14 items or less aisle. To be honest, the self check out area sucks. It's a small store. The only way to differentiate themselves is with good product and service, and the have chosen the wrong direction. If this is what is happening at their other locations, I fully expect they will tank within the year.

This is a great place for produce and for organic foods. I especially love the fish here. Their fish cakes are the best.

Great supermarket for college students or others. Lots of choices without being too overwhelming. Prices were reasonable, too. Checkout was quick-manager put us on a 10 item line even though we had more than 10 items.

This is store has almost anything you want on a daily basis. They also have cigarettes but they don't sell alcohol. Around this place, you can find a CVS, which opens 24 hours, and a Gordon's Fine Wines & Liquors.

It's a good place to shop. I like it a lot. It's convenient if you live near by.
