The Halifax Sexual Health Centre is located within Bayers Road Centre. Although there is a lot of parking available, the centre itself can be difficult to find. If you can locate the Starlite Gallery, then go upstairs, the centre suite 302 will be near the public washroom. I personally did not have any problem booking for an appointment over the phone. I only needed a health card when I showed up. There is a large waiting area with seats set apart. My appointment was only delayed by 10 minutes. The doctor was professional and it was a relatively straightforward process.
I had an excellent experience at this clinic, from start to finish. I had to replace my IUD which I had severe anxiety around because my first placement was extremely traumatic at a regular GP in Ontario. My husband found this place with good reviews. I had a phone consult and the Dr. made me feel a little better because they provide freezing, but I was still very nervous. For my actual appointment I had Dr. Bauld and she was fantastic! She reassured me it would be okay and go very quickly. She talked to me the entire time to keep my mind off things, she provided freezing, and in a few minutes, it was over! Thank. God. I can't express enough gratitude for making this entire experience so so so much better than my first!
I am so beyond grateful that this clinic is available to the public, but the only downfall is the fact that they only have one person to answer phone calls. Accessibility is ABSOLUTELY needed for a clinic like this in a city this size! I tried multiple times over the course of a month to try to get someone on the phone so I could make an appointment.
I've called 20 times over the past two weeks and only talked to a real person once--then they immediately told me to call back next week. They don't book appointments online or through email. Their phone is busy 99% of the time and they don't answer voicemails. They are supposed to be open until 5pm, but they weren't answering calls as of 4:40pm. If you close at 4:40pm, say you close at 4:40pm so potential patients don't waste their time.
Nice people. I'm having issues from a medical procedure done there and I'm also out of my medication, I was suppose to take it yesterday, no refills left. I've been trying to call them for days. They never answer the phone. I've gotten through in past like 1% of the time. I said screw it and went to the office around 5 yesterday, I couldn't find anything saying they were closed but there was no one there! Driving there in really bad traffic didn't make it any better.
As a fellow healthcare professional I can say that this was one of the best experiences I've had with other healthcare professionals. Staff are highly competent and professional. If you're worried about going here for any reason, please don't be. They will take great care of you.
Decent and friendly people once you can get in there, that being said you will probably never have anyone answer the phone even calling during work hours for days on end. In the slim chance someone actually does answer theyll tell you theyre booked out for the month and that they don't make schedules for the next month. I've been trying to talk to my doctor there for months about my medication and doses because they desperately need to be changed but im completely out of luck, and if I dont get an appointment by January I'll genuinely run out of medication. Another personal complaint is that I was started off on a really tiny dose of HRT and even after 14 I'm still on too low of a dose but I can't get ahold of my doctor to change it mentioned above. For those reasons I cant reallt recommend going here but sadly for some services its pretty much the only option you have.
This is literally the best medical care I ever received in NS so far and I'm so grateful. This clinic has helped me through my inferility journey and with many other things.
Just like any other health services in this province it's a joke. They are overloaded and end up dismissing people as much as they can. If you can live anywhere else in Canada, do so, this province is to be avoided at all costs!
Amazing staff who really care about your well-being. Most walk-in clinics in the city will only look at one issue you have per visit. My experience at the sexual health centre was quite the opposition, with the doctor fulling answering all my questions and asking me if there was anything else they could help me with a couple of times. 6 out of 5 stars in my opinion. They really care :
