I am writing to formally express my deep concern regarding the care my wife received at the Halifax Infirmary Emergency Department.nMy wife was approximately two months pregnant when we attended the emergency department due to vaginal bleeding and significant abdominal pain. We clearly communicated that she was pregnant and experiencing these symptoms, which we understood to be potentially serious and urgent.nDespite this, we waited approximately seven hours before receiving proper medical attention. During this time, we observed other patients who appeared stable being seen ahead of her. This was extremely distressing given her condition.nTragically, we lost our baby. While we cannot definitively state that the delay caused this outcome, we strongly feel that her condition was not treated with the urgency and seriousness it required. We also left the hospital feeling that our concerns were not taken seriously and that we were not treated with the same level of care and priority as others.nThis experience has caused our family profound emotional pain. We respectfully request that the hospital review its triage procedures and ensure that pregnant patients presenting with bleeding and abdominal pain are assessed promptly and managed with appropriate urgency. We also urge the hospital to ensure that all patients are treated equitably, respectfully, and without discrimination.nWe hope that by raising this concern, improvements can be made to prevent other families from experiencing similar heartbreak.
I had an unfortunate slip and fall, while holding a glass, that broke and sliced deep into my hand and partially severed two tendons and completely severed two nerves. The attention I received at the Halifax Infirmary was exceptional. Yes, there was some waiting involved, but I understand I’m not the most important person in the world and that other people might possibly have needed attention more than I did. When I finally was taken into surgery, doctors Eric and Kevin I can’t remember their last names performed very delicate hand surgery and were able to reconnect my nerves and fix the tendons, and they did it in such a professional and skilful manner that it makes me truly believe there is hope for our overstressed health system. This is a learning hospital, and it was a privilege for me to witness this training first hand and see how well it is being done and how trusting everybody is with each other. The supervising surgeon, I believe it was Dr. Simpson, would pop in occasionally to check the work the doctors were doing and was always very encouraging and positive with them. I think Dr. Eric was a resident and Dr. Kevin was an intern. They worked very well together and were very pleasant and knew how to communicate with a patient who could have, possibly, lost some use of a finger. Their knowledge and ability ensured that didn’t happen. I feel privileged to have been attended by Dr. Eric and Dr. Kevin and their supporting staff and to experience how well this hospital is doing to ensure our future healthcare providers are well trained and get the essential experience to do what we need them to do. Thank you so much for your care.
The place has mice, staff was great , only thing is they push you out the door 24 hrs after having major surgery. Was going to put me in a taxi for a 3 hr drive home to CapeBreton.I filed a complaint, emailed minster of health, good ole Tim , and my MLA. Truly don’t expect to hear anything from them. Please check out my facebook post set to public pics from my stay.nIf i could give a 0 i would
I visited the Halifax Infirmary Emergency Department on July 30 around 7:30 PM due to bleeding and cramping at 5 weeks pregnant. I waited until 3:40 AM without being seen. After sitting for over 8 hours in distress, I eventually had to walk out, feeling worse than when I arrived.nnThis was an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience. I understand healthcare systems are under pressure, but to have only two beds for pregnancy-related emergencies is unacceptable. This is not what I would call emergency care.nnThe severe staff shortage of doctors and nurses clearly affects the quality of care. I left without answers, feeling neglected during what was a frightening moment. I hope improvements are made to ensure others don't go through the same.
I have had acne since I was 17!!! 10 yrs now! I wanted doctor to look at acne and provide something effective since I have been living here for 10 yrs. They said that it’s not a medical emergency and to go to my family Dr but my family doctor takes over a week to get in to see!!!
