Hair by Thomas Japanese Hair Straightening

Thomas is absolutely amazing at Japanese Hair Straightening. He owns the place and scheduling an appointment with him is a breeze - Thomas it always available and responds to you right away. Needless to say, I only go to Hair By Thomas for my perm touch ups!

I went into this salon after looking at the ratings. This is a lengthy review and not a rant. My hair had never been treated with the japanese straightening before - At shoulder length, naturally kingky mixed curls, frizzy and dry. - It was exposed to hair dye before my first session a year before and only dying it once a year black. After consultation, Thomas asked to come early as it will be a lengthy process. I arrived and noticed another client. He was already in the midst of her treatment. He washed my hair after inspection and placed the neutralizer while splitting his attention to the other client. Because he thought my hair needed different strengths he only used one and washed it early so not to over process it. It was very understandable at the time but after the wash he wanted to eat breakfast since he didn’t in the morning and left me to dry my own hair! You reading this, don’t have to ask how my reaction was. Unprofessional to say the least! He comes and straightens my hair and places the sealant while finishing up with the other client. After washing then blowdrying only* I determined I needed a hair cut since we discussed the potential of this before beginning this process. Since my hair was only* blow dried, it was kink free but still frizzy and dryness and I wanted some of the ends cut and decrease the volume. I am not a professional nor a “particular” individual; I have had experience cutting and dying hair of my own and others. However; Thomas didn’t seem to understand the technique of thinning the hair from the bottom layers of the hair while keeping the top perimeter longest. He kept cutting and asking if it was my desired look and at that point I had lost 2 and half inches of my hair I just wanted to go home and do it myself. So that’s exactly what he told me to do because he felt I had knowledge on what I was doing yet he didn’t apologize for not understanding?! I agree he needs to communicate more, be attentive and give full explanation of the process. I had obviously done my research and knew that after the last wash there would be another straightening process and to leave the hair 2 days undisrupted atleast so when I confirmed with Thomas he said I can tie it, wash it or do whatever with it. I thought he was saying that maybe because he had a different system that wouldn’t require these crucial steps but nonetheless I didnt wash it nor tie it except went home to straighten my puffy hair after my embarrassment in public and thinned it. I went back to my research and confirmed after my first wash that he hadn’t straightened my hair even to the slightest because the waves and kinks came back but not fully within a month. Regret paying the $400 that wasn’t remotely cheaper then the rest and the tip that I thought was out of being civil!

I have been to his place a few times and this is personal review He has NO communication skills...and not even attempting. If you are working in a service industry, communication is very imperative. Even if you are not born as an excellent communicator, at least try your best for the sake of your customers... Most of the hair dressers' will ask you, may I hang your coat, but he is asking us to hang the coats on the rack...this may be something minor, but these minor actions speak loud about who you are.

With all the strong reviews, I just had to check out Hair by Thomas and I was not let down. Thomas accommodated my appointment on short notice and overall it was a 5/5 experience! He is very professional, personable, and did an amazing job with my haircut. Thank you, I will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend. 💯!!

I have been going to Hair by Thomas for more than ten years. My hair is extremely curly and i do the Japanese Hair Straightening every few months. My hair has never been damaged, Thomas is honest, takes care of his clients and is very professional. My experience with him has been excellent and, since i have been seeing him, I have never even considered going anywhere else. I recommend him 100% without hesitation.
