Great place to bring friends, you can chat while grilling the meat! They have a wide selection of meat, we got lamb, pork, chicken, beef, squid, mushroom, rice cake & sausage skewers! We ordered cheese corn as well. Everything tasted great! Their grill also moves the skewers automatically so that they get grilled evenly. I highly recommend coming to Gui Gui just for the experience!
Referral from a friend, I ventured into North York for a try. The booking was a little challenged as no one picked up the phone on a August Sunday. My family decided still go ahead knowing the risk. We were happy to have taken the trip into North York. The skewers ranges from $2.95 to $6.95 each set, most were priced at $5.95 for 4. We ordered a variety of selections and all of them came out great. The one recommendation we have is to somehow color code them so we can easily identify the meat types. My kids don’t like spicy and some like lamb while others don’t. So me and wife have to try every skewer and while that is good for the first time, it’s definitely a lot easier if we can tell the meat upfront. We also ordered the spicy squid and that was good. Only the corn skewer was disappointing otherwise, we were all happy campers. We will be back !!
Great Korean style BBQ restaurant with auto-rotating oven. Lamb skewers and seafood stew tasted super good. Enjoyed a dinner at Friday night here. It’s a perfect place to spend time and enjoy grilled proteins with friends. Parking spots are located in back of the building. Highly recommend!
A Korean skewer place where the skewers turn around automatically to ensure smooth cooking. That was pretty cool to experience once. Food taste wise it was pretty good. You do have to monitor your food to make sure it doesn't burn, but you can just put it above the direct fire if you want to eat it warm later. There is a decent amount of variety for skewers - minimum 5 types to order in sets of 2 or 4, so I'd recommend going with at least 3-4 people to hit the minimum. It does add up price wise, being ~ $7 for 4 skewers. The space is very late night Korean bar feel. We went in a group of 7 at the back and only had one skewer section to ourselves at our table the table next to us was leaking water from the ceiling so we didn't have that much space for all the food we ordered on our table. The food came pretty quickly, but a lot of the hot items got cold fast unfortunately because of the space issue. We also ordered a drink which came with traditional cups, but two of our cups had a leak and one was big enough that we just got another bottle on the house lol. Service was also pretty slow after we got our food - we were at the back but basically weren't checked up on much at all during the meal.
An interesting setup for barbeque skewers with a cool twist. Nice spot to relax and have an easy going meal and conversation. A little on the pricey side for the skewers but I guess that's for the overall dining experience. Service is good and friendly.
The skewers are ok, the best is the eel and the worst is the pork as it's really small cut that you taste nothing but a solid little chunk of meat. Ordered a few side dishes egg roll with cheese which is really good, seafood pancake and cold noodle soup. The only thing we don't like as we had 5 people thinking they will give us a longer table but no just a normal table for 2-4 people which didn't have enough space to have the food on the table, they had to get a stool beside our table to place all the skewers.
Korean BBQ skewer place that not only had skewers but also does table BBQ! For skewers we got lamb original and spicy, curry pork, original beef, rice cake and sausage skewers, buttered corn, and marshmallows! We ordered a fish cake soup and stir-fry beef intestines as well and I must say the beef intestines is a must try. The fish cake soup on the other hand was meh. Their grill also moves the skewers automatically so that it gets grilled evenly. I highly recommend coming to Gui Gui just for the experience!
Great meal and fun experience. I absolutely adored the skewer turning mechanism over live flame. It kept the skewers freshly cooked, and they wont get cold and greasy right away like other skewer restaurants. My favorites were the lamb skewer and sausage and ricecake skewer.
We were very disappointed. Worst Korean food I've had, very salty and burnt skewers. Our server was very nice and friendly tho. Not many options for skewers now see pic, we had hard time choosing the minimum of 5 order of skewers. Everything was way too salty too much sauce on it, we have a salty taste but can barely eat them. We rather have them a bit plain and add the sauce ourselves. Also the skewers were not put on properly, so some pieces wouldn't rotate some too big to rotate, so ended burnt with one side and the other side was undercooked, or, hold them yourself which defeats the design of the automatic rotating grill... Seafood pancake's only seafood was squid, not even shrimp was in it, and only a few small pieces of squid, rest r veggie... crispy tho, maybe call it veggie and squid pancake please. Left extremely unsatisfied and went to another restaurant to fill our bellies that night. Will not return and do not recommend. Parking: A hidden gravel driveway with fence off cummer lead to their parking behind the building, a few spots only but it's free!
A unique experience in North York! I've done Korean BBQ and Japanese Yakitori before, and now it's like I'm experiencing their forbidden lovechild. The place was cozy, but can be smoky during busy hours. Be prepared to purge the smell from your jackets after. Korean BBQ was tasty, served with lettuce, soy bean paste, and side dishes. The Kimchi and fish roe fried rice was amazing, not too oily, with good flavours coming from the Kimchi. After enjoying the Korean BBQ, we switched to the BBQ skewers, cooked on the table with the contraption that spun the skewers to ensure even cooking. I would recommend the lamb, spicy squid, marinated beef, and chicken with scallions for the skewers. Buttered corn dish completed the wonderful meal. The experience alone is worth a visit, and is complimented by tasty food. Best enjoyed with good friends and adventurous spirit.
