The “hop on and hop off” bus tour was really disappointing!! I personally would save your money and just drive to the places yourself, or take the transit bus if possible! The recording of the tour wasn’t synced with the bus driving at all, and as the audio was talking about something, a sight to see it was no where in sight! We’ve already passed it, it was very frustrating. The tour doesn’t sync with the castle hours either, but they still charge you full price even though you can’t tour inside Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. The bus also doesn’t take you anywhere in sight of the castle! You don’t even get to see it, you’d have to hop off at a stop and walk a few blocks. They also give you 2 hours at each stop, so really if you want to “hop off” you only get to choose one or 2 stops because the tour ends at 4 pm. Also non of these stops you’d need 2 hours at, especially if you can’t even tour inside of the castle. I wouldn’t do it again, and felt like it was a huge waste of money.
Forrest Gump Tour? Are you a worldly traveler with stories to share with strangers at a bus stop? Buy a seat on Gray Line's "Hop On and Get Stranded" tour of Victoria, British Columbia. We paid $55.00C each, sat on the hard plastic seats and listened to loud audio feedback as far as Craigdarroch Castle. Having been told that there would only be one bus per hour, we rushed through our castle tour. When the bus showed up, all of the seats were full. Some people stood in the wheelchair area, but we had already heard our first driver angrily yell at people for standing. Instead, we stayed at the bus stop and called Gray Line. They already knew why we were calling, and assured us that they were sending another bus in 30 minutes. They never did. Thankfully, we were able to cram into the next scheduled bus, having waited an entire hour. If they had been honest, we could have taken a cab or city bus--instead of waiting for a bus that never came.
I've done these tours in other cities and I've always loved them. You get an overview of Victoria's most well-known areas and attractions. There definitely is a lot to see, and if you see things that you really like, you can go back on your own or get off the bus and explore further. This really is a no-brainer tourist pick. The bus driver was excellent and entertaining. He had to amend the tour slightly due to a change in road construction and did an admirable job.
Bait and switch! Do not use this bus service! I purchased tickets for 1:30 start. I got here at 1:15 and she said that the bus was full. When asked how that was possible when the ticket I bought through Viator clearly states that my time is 1:30. The smart mouthed not very bright young lady says..."oh! We're not affiliated with Viator" I looked at her and said "then how are they selling tickets for you?" Then she looks at me with a blank look in her eyes and says.."yes...that's what I meant". So I asked her if they regularly oversold their tickets and she did not understand what that meant. So I clarified what it meant .....you sold more tickets than you had seats for...she says "no..that's not what we did"...then she said "well it's first come first serve" which didn't make sense because I was here before my assigned time of 1:30 and the bus was already full and they were turning people away. So they loaded the bus up at 1 pm? I had to stop talking to her because she was bringing my IQ down. So I spoke to a person who looked like she might be in charge and she said that they did oversell the bus and we needed to get in this long line and wait for the 2:30 bus. I told her I didn't pay for the 2:30 bus. She just shrugged. Needless to say, there were many many unhappy people waiting to talk to her too. AND to top it off, NOT ONE PERSON APOLOGIZED for the inconvenience. Horrible customer service.
Bit expensive. Every 40 minutes is ok. Think there should be more stops and more frequent. Also Chinatown market square esquimalt and more.
90 minutes narrated tour and it gives you perfect flavour of the city. Once you finish the whole tour, then continue to go each place and then hop on and off. If your guide is Tim, you are going to enjoy it even more.
We were planning on enjoying a tour of Victoria until we overheard an employee speaking of both customers and passersby about their appearances and mannerisms with such desrespect. Cannot recommend this service if this is what folks can expect from their employees.
Took the tour to beat the heat last weekend. A nice tour around the city and outskirts but I feel the driver talked and promoted the restaurants and hotels than he did give educational info. Cheesy jokes about tipping at the end were not appreciated either so we didn't leave a tip. Maybe be a little more discreet . Not worth $45 in my opinion . I was also dissapointed we didn't see the castle as it is listed as a stop on the tour.
We take a Grayline tour in every city we visit as we always love the informative guides. However, today's narration was pre-recorded and overly scripted. We really missed the live information, impromptu comments, humour and the opportunity to ask a few questions. There was a lot of down time with no narration and, when the wind picked up, we couldn't hear it anyway. As a couple we paid $100 which did not feel like money well spent for a 90-minute pre-recorded tour. The driver was pleasant and the route was diverse with many nice, waterfront views.
This was an awesome experience. Lots of things to see on this tour and you can stop and get off/on at many great locations. The bus was quite clean, the driver and staff were friendly and informative, and the narration was very well done. This is definitely something I would do again.
