I'm not sure what you expect coming to an all you can eat restaurant. If you goto the Golden Dragon expecting great Italian cuisine you will be more disappointed than the audience of Anchorman 2. You goto the Golden Dragon for the chinese food and your goal is to eat as much as you can during the buffet. The rice is what you expect. Doesn't punch your tongue with all the flavour. Maybe it's missing the msg. But it's tolerable. The chicken balls are good and the carrots are crunchy according to my wife. The jello had thicker skin than an elephant's elbow. The atmosphere is another reason you come here. To see the owner pacing around checking how everything is, it reminds you of karate kid and you're in the dojo. Keep going Mr.Miagi. The way our night played out was almost like a movie. The bus boy didn't look like he was happy with his previous choices which led him to here. It's okay bus boy of sadness, you will make it through life. This will make you stronger. The waitress you can tell has been working here since 1989 the way she navigates to the tables and refilling the water. Max level. I liked this place since I was a kid and it seems nothing has changed except the inflation of prices.
Focus is on the daily Chinese buffet for dinner however I find more value and satisfaction ordering one of their special plates off the menu. Usually go for the Cantonese Chow Mein enough for two average adults but if you have a big appetite, the buffet will always satisfy. Busy staff waiting tables can sometimes be coarse with customers but hey, they are waiting on huge numbers and don't have time to fiddle. I get that as most people do
All 14 of my teenage children were fed, absolutely stuffed and took a container home with them. They all had virgin strawberry daiquiri’s for dirt cheap, chocolate milks, got refills and felt spoiled silly! The elderly host that greeted us at the door and his wife were matching the entire theme of their restaurant and came straight out of a rush hour 2 movie. The bathrooms, which is one place I always look in restaurants for expectations smelt nice, was clean, and well stocked. Our server was the entire Gem of the show and made us feel like we had private booking and we were her family! Even one of my boys, personally stayed behind to thank her at the end, we guessed her name during dinner because she was such an auntie feeling. We guessed it was: Betty, Roxanne, or Jo-anne. Turns out her name is Diane and she provided such speedy and efficient service that we didn’t even know we ordered but felt she had know us for a long time, new what we like, and read our minds. The food was delicious and hot and had ever kid in my group trying new foods. They gave us cookies and offered us gums on our way out, I couldn’t believe how quick we all ate, easy the service was, and how it didn’t break my pocket. 10 out of 10 definitely recommend, I look forward to returning to the Sault st. Marie as this will always forever now be a place I will be stopping in my books from here on out! Vegetarian options: All kinds of options and willing need to modify your order to suit your needs, you don’t find this kind of service everywhere. Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly and supper understanding supporting staff Parking: Lots of close by parking! Wheelchair accessibility: Very easily accessible Dietary restrictions: Fulfilled every need and exceeded expectations
I'm specifically rating the "all you can eat" experience. It was ok, price was ok, and atmosphere and service were ok. Can't go wrong when you want to stuff your face for a decent price.Food: 3/5
Food was great, service horrific. Our server was miserable. Threw the cutlery at us, plunked water on table, never asked if we wanted drinks, and never returned until it was time to give us the bill, so too late to ask for drinks. I’ve never not tipped in my life until today. Sadly, all servers suffer because of having to split tips with cranky!
I remember going to the Golden Dragon as a young child and now I love bringing my daughter here. The owners are so nice, I love to see them! They always give my daughter a little treat. I’ve always had a great experience with their food, super yummy! The buffet noodles are everyone’s favourite and we like that the sauce comes on the side of the chicken, it keeps it from getting soggy.
Not a lot of options - the salad and dessert bar were basically empty. Taste of everything was kind of off, I didn't finish any plate. Probably won't return.
The host, hostess and waitress were kind, though the food was unacceptable. I showed up on time for the dinner in hopes of having fresh food - what a disappointment. Old, tasteless food that looks like it was from several days prior. Dessert area was full of flies on the cake. Disgusting.
Decent food and good service usually. Our last trip was for dinner. Very over priced for the selection of food available. We also had a different server than our usual and she was not nearly as good as the usual server. Never even came back to refill water. Maybe she was just having a bad day, that happensFood: 4/5
